Quote: What exact products did you use? Exactly what "buffer" did you use? What speeds did you use while buffing? What was your technique when buffing (how fast did you move the buffer, how long did you polish each area, etc)? I have black and using proper products and techniques, my paint is in very good condition, even with 93k miles on it.
This is the same user as ULMGUY84, my account got fudged up somehow.

To answer your question, I can see where you thought I just purchased the buffer, but let me assure you, I have used a buffer plenty of times in the past. How do you think I placed in those shows?

I used to own a black VW Jetta GLI, a black GMC Sierra, and a custom red/purple pearl accord. Had I known Infiniti paint was of such lower quality than a volkswagen or a freaking GMC I would have taken necessary precautions such as:

a 3m clear bra
at least 3 coats of caranuba wax applied at all times
daily bath spritzes to remove sudden bugs or bird droppings
(seriously a bug ate through to bare metal in under 12 hours)
or eh hem....not buy the damn car!

I didnt pay 37k for subpar clear coat....

Paint/Clear coat issues....?
I'd be pissed too, you have a almost new car with rust issues. I'd jerk that
service writer out of his shoes and tell him he doesn't know ****. Then I'd
ask to speak to the dealership owner....no one else would do! I have a
Twilight Blue '04 without any issues mainly because it's garage kept and gets
waxed every 90 days with Zymol concourse....nothing get thru this wax!

Quote: As you can read from my post above, I agree regarding the finish on our G35. Very poor, soft easily damage clear coat. There are a ton of posts regarding the soft clear coat. The only thing OK about it is that because it's soft, it polishes a bit easier with a PC.
I just Googled 'lovebugs'. i don't think we have them up here. What do they do to the paint.
Curious.
Lovebugs swarm in the spring and fall in Florida. I think they're called that because they're always having sex (two are stuck together) while flying.

They have an acid in their bodies that'll eat through paint easily. If you don't have a strong clear coat or decent wax build up.... permanent damage.

I did a google image search on "lovebug damage." The FIRST picture to show up was a silver 07+ G35 (and it looks pretty much exactly like my lovebug damage)

Quote: Do a google search on bird droppings etching BMW paint and see how many hits you get. You will see the same thing as here with people complaining about bird poop messing up the paint, often with only a few hours contact time in the sun. It happens with all types of cars.
Yeah, BMW guys complain about a crappy clearcoat too.

I read once that it has something to do with hippies and regulations about saving the environment.

What I don't understand is why they don't put a good clearcoat on the car from the factory. If Pontiac can do it.........

I have a brand new 08 G35X Sport. The day I got it home from the dealership is when i notices swirl marks EVERYWHERE. This is my 4th black car, and I have never seen anything like this. I had to spend $500.00 to get the whole car wet sanded to make it look perfect. They tried to hit the whole car with a foam pad and it still looked like BAL** I have to tell you, it definitely look a ton better. There isn't any orange peel left in the paint, and it looks like glass. I do have to agree with most that are replying, the paint does seem soft and easily scratched. For an upscale car not to impressed. My 2007 Chevy avalanche had a lot better paint on it i hate to say..

I too have swirl marks up the *** as well as clear coat damage from bird droppings and what not. I owned a show Prelude before this so I know how to take care of paint, but I've pretty much given up on the G and just accepted the fact that the paint sucks.

I think every black car will show the swirls easily, but to have a 2008 and get rust is unacceptable. They need to take care of that for you.

When you used the buffer, did it make the swirls worse? Did you use a claybar first? If so, you may have need a less abrasive compound followed by a polish and wax. A lot of the microfiber products still cause scratches.

i know you're sick of hearing it but black is miserable.

I actually traded in my first 06 coupe with only 11k on it for a brand new white coupe simply because I couldn't stand the black paint anymore.

We were at Infinfiti this past Sunday looking at the newer cars and I swear even the brand new BLACK cars on the lot had swirls already.

although you'll hear some of the 'it's a black car' and 'infiniti paint sucks', i just cant fathom how a brand new car should be suffering such substantial damage so soon... i wouldnt be satisfied until the dealer remedied the problem... good luck...

Cars on the lot (if you buy off the lot) get washed regularly and unfortunately most dealerships don't use best practices when it comes to washing cars. I have a very good dealership that I go to for service but I won't let them wash my G. I know, from asking them, that they wash the finish with a brush.
