Rock Chips - Who has them?

Re: Rock Chips - Who has them?
I've had my twilight blue for a little over two months and I've just spent most of the morning and part of the afternoon repairing several, among other normal appearance maintenance tasks.
I think that repairing them will not be too bad, if you keep up with them and you don't end up rubbing through the surrounding paint. Time will tell.
I fixed mine by daubing just a little touch up paint on them, letting it dry, then rubbing the p1ss out of it with Meguiars step 1 paint cleaner. Can't even see 'em now.

Or you can all try waxing your cars every once in a while. I apply 2 coats of Zaino Z-2 (with ZFX) every 3 months and it has certainly proven itself.
Oh and it's not the G's paint being sh*tty...I mean, it is sh*tty paint, but have you guys seen the Mischief Gumball 3000 DVD? Even the Ferraris' front bumpers were completely white after driving across the US for a week.

Re: Rock Chips - Who has them?
Well, I drive from SD to LA and back almost every weekend, so I am sure I have more than normal. I knew I should have gotten a clear bra right after they repainted my bumper, but at $500-$600 its a pretty steep investment. I have about 2 coats of NXT and 4 coats on Zaino on my car as well. Didn't help at all. And about the color matching, after the dealership repainted my bumper the paint matched perfectly in every lighting angle. You couldnt tell that it was repainted at all. I thought the new paint would be stronger than the OEM, but I guess its not.
Mr.Elussive, I suggest you get your **** to a clear bra installer before you end up like everyone else.
What the cost of repainting the bumper? $200?

Repainted by a good shop will always be better than OEM paint. ALWAYS. They have better techniques. You can request them to make it better as well for chip resistant. I did this on all my cars that had front end damage and after they fixed it, it never got chipped anymore hardly.
My g35 front bumper looks like crap as well.

Re: Rock Chips - Who has them?
Well, I'm telling you guys. I have around 8,500 miles on the car and I drive on the dirtiest highways 4 days a week (sometimes other highways on week-ends) and my car's front end is clean. Cross Bronx and Cross Island, are the main highways I use to get to school and I don't care what vehicles I am behind...trucks, cars, SUV's, whatever.
My first application of Zaino (when I first got the car) consisted of two coats of Z-2 and two coats of Z-5, then every 3 months after that, I apply one coat of Z-5 and one coat of Z-2. I always do a solid job applying the Zaino and I give EXTREMELY special care to the front of the vehicle.
Keep in mind that auto polish (such as Zaino or Liquid Glass) works better with lawyers, as opposed to regular car wax. The more layers (or coats) you apply, the stronger the protection your car's paint will receive. Regular car wax, if you apply more than one coat, all of the coats of wax will only last as long as the original coat, plus there is really no added protection from layering most car waxes.
Hell, if you apply the Liquid Glass Pre-Cleaner and then the Liquid Glass Auto Polish, your car is protected from acid rain for up to a year...how much more protection can you get?? =)

Re: Rock Chips - Who has them?
I'm sure there is a possibility that not every single factory paint job on our cars is exactly the same. Therefore it is quite possible that some of our members have paint jobs that are more resistant to chips than others. That is why some of the G35 owners claim they are pretty much chip free.

Re: Rock Chips - Who has them?
Well, it must be true. I had a previous car that the nose looked like it was sand blasted in the front after 3 years. Anyway, I unfortunetly hydorplaned and crashed the car....after it was repainted, it was a lot more resistant to chips. Probably because the painter applied a lot more coats of paint/clearcoat is what I assume

Re: Rock Chips - Who has them?
I have had several vehicles repainted and all turned out better than OEM. Now I did pay about $3000-4000 for a paint job but if you want perfection then thats what it will cost. A factory paint job is worth about $2000, and you get FREE orange peal
I had a 93 S class repainted for $3800 four years ago, and the front of the car looks as good as it did the day I got it back. Considering that down here in Florida we have two bouts of love bugs every year and lots of road costruction I think thats good. The key to a good paint job is the prep work and the person wet sanding.
