How to pick a Clay bar...why 20 dollars over a 10 dollar bar?

How to pick a Clay bar...why 20 dollars over a 10 dollar bar?

Hey guys...im trying to buy all my cleaning equipment.

on the clay bar, i see sooooo many...and they all have different prices...is there really a quality issue or what? why is one better than they other or why is the 24.99 one better than the ebay Magic clay bar for 10 bucks...

its a 2005, and i dont know how bad the suface is but it definitely is rough is some spots...no swirls or discoloration though...maybe a light fading in 1 or 2 spots.

so i figured a FINE would be good.

Clay bars have different levels of aggressiveness, as well as polymer compound, resulting in slightly different characteristics. Some are softer, some are harder, a lot of it comes down to personal preference, when the aggressiveness ratings are similar. If you use too aggressive of a claybar, you run a high risk of marring the surface

i understand that...hrmm well the ones i am looking at alll say fine...

1.) Meguirs kit- 20-30 bucks, 2 x 50g bars and detailer's spray
2.) Magic Clay Bar - $10, 200g bar
3.) Detailed image's ClearKote 200g bar - $25

i have the meguairs clay bar kit, i bought it b/c it was like 20 some odd dollars which wasn't too bad. The other kit they had was 20 bucks, so the difference in a few bucks wasn't a big deal. I honestly didn't think it did much to my car, though my car is an 07, it pretty much felt the same.... (my car feels smooth to start with)

It mostly comes down to the size of the bar when price fluctuates. The $10 Clay Magic bar is probably an 80g bar compared to the bars we sell are 200g bars. Consider the Chemical Guys 180g clay bar to save a couple bucks over the 200g bars we offer.

If you see a Clay Magic bar on ebay that is 200g for $10 let me know and I'll buy them all, it's much cheaper than my cost

Edit: I just checked eBay and it looks like the one you are referring to is not Clay Magic, when I first read this post that's what I thought you typed. There are other types of clay out there for considerably less money that may not be specific for auto detailing, even though the eBay one I found claims it is. Worse case scenario, you buy it, it mars the paint or doesn't fully remove the contamination and you end up putting in a lot more time and effort than the extra money spent on a reputable clay bar. Best case scenario, you save about $10.

Hey george! once i figure my leather cleaner out, ill be placing my order! (i know i know, ive been procastinating)

Anyways..its not a $$ issues. Im strictly curious why one bar at the same FINEness and same Weight is worth more or less. I see it can do with the materials the clay is made...but i still dont get why one is better than another material...i did some research and it seems like there are only a handful of factories that actual produce the clay. They build it by color(fine, medium, ect) and sell it to everyone.
