OPINIONS PLEASE!!!

My LR coupe is about 5 months old, and while I seem to be doing a good job of keeping the swirls and marks off the car (the clearbra is the best investment ever!), I do have some spots which "irk" me.

I've been using Zaino from the get go, but I honestly believe that the clay bar did some form of damage, by lightly scratching the surface of my paint in several areas. It almost looks like I took very light sandpaper and rubbed the car with it. Needless to say...all clay is in the trash.

I'd like everyone's opinion here. Does it make more sense for me to take the car to a body shop, and have the professionals "permanently" remove the marks, then start over with the Zaino process (minus clay)?

-OR-

Should I buy an orbital buffer, and use a compound to try a DIY job? I don't mind putting time into my car, but I certainly don't profess to being a paint expert. I've heard that buffers can do damage which makes me nervous.

Assuming money is of no object, what should I do? (And why does clay stink?!?!)

Re: OPINIONS PLEASE!!!

I shouldn't have clay'd the car when it was new...you're right...however, why would clay do what it did? I did just as the instructions said...mix a spray bottle of water and Z-7 and lubricate the car before using. The clay did slide across the car like a puck, and when I felt it stick, I sprayed more soapy water. At this point...I don't really care why the clay did what it did...I just want to fix it!

I'll try your suggestion of the DIY. Thanks for the input!
