Help! Plastic melted on exhaust tip

I was driving at night the other day and there was a platic piece on the road that I ran right over. I didn't think anything of it because it was just simply a piece of plastic. THEN, a day later, i come out and i see that the plastic got wrapped around the left exhaust tip and was MELTED on the tip!. I got most of what i could out but the plastic is hardened on the tip. Question is, how do I properly get the rest of the plastic off?

Should I get a heat gun, melt the plastic, and try to wipe it off as it is melting? Input plz ...

it melted on, so I'm sure you could melt it off. That's the best I can think of.

Update: So i drove for like 45mins and then tried to get the plastic off and most of it came off but there's still a good bit on it. What sucks is that the plastic took some of the finish of the exhaust off with it. Gotta try to get the rest off with a heat gun or something. Any other ideas to get plastic off metal?
