Sticky Clear Coat??

Hey...I just ordered my rotary and was looking online for tips for my 2008 G35. I came across a thread about sticky clear coats on this model and how it's made life hard for a lot of detailers. Has anyone else had experience with this? Did all of the 08's come through with this paint issue?

TIA

No it wasn't all models, it was a batch from the factory where they wrapped the car for shipping before the paint was completely dry, which gave it a "sticky" clear coat.

Are you just going to dive right into your car with a rotary? Go to a bodyshop and see if you can pic up some scrap parts to work on, because you probably don't want to be using a rotary on your car if it's your first time, and definitely do not if you have the sticky clear coat.

Oh and btw, I vaguely remember someone saying they had more luck with a DA polisher. Don't quote me on that though. Search for yourself over at the forums on DetailingBliss.com if your not already there, great info and great people.

Good luck

Thanks for the note. I fully agree on the scrap panel. I already have a some panels lined up from a local body shop to experiment with. I also have a friend with a pretty old Mazda who is willing to be my irst attempt. I've been using a DA for years so I'm ready to try to move up.

No problem. Just make sure you tape trim and edges and you will be fine, also be sure to be extra careful on most bumpers as they can warp from the heat since they are a different material.

Here's the thread about the sticky clear coat:
