Tint brand names that are acceptable/or stay away?

I live in houston and am getting my tint done soon. My friend wanted me to get a group rate with him and another kid from the guy that does his family's cars, but when i asked what film he uses and how much he charges he pretty much said it was generic film and it would be around $150.... i said F THAT i'll get it somewhere else. I just dont know what films to stay away from and which ones are good and will last for a long time. I'm on houston-imports.com and i went to a post about tints in houston and there were a LOT of responses. Maybe in just too worried because everyone on there seems to think that they got the best tint for the best price and they all seem like pretty good tint jobs. I just want to know which ones i should stay away from. Someone on there said lumar fades after a couple of years and turns purple. One shop that keeps being brought up as a good tinter uses SolarGaurd. I want a black tint, not a silvery kind of metalic mirror looking one. (it looks good on some cars but i dont want that on black) I'm gonna start emailing places and calling because i wanna get this done in the next two weeks before i go back to school.

Take a look at some of the other tinting threads for some brand suggestions. It seems though that on this forum, Huper Optik and Madico are popular. Personally, I have Huper Optik on my sedan [see my thread aboud the DG sedan with clear bra + CG for a picture] and I really like the way it looks. Plus it really does help in cutting down the heat gain through the windows.

I have Madico and Huper is great too. I would suggest not to do too much research on the topic because there are at least half a dozen brands that are really good. Sometimes, too much info makes it hard to decide! Quality film and installation should cost around $250. Go with either Madico or Huper or 3M......can't go wrong! Don't forget, our rear window is much harder to do than other cars because of the speaker location so you want an experienced installer.
