Bugs on front Bumper from Long Distance Trips

Hey all,

How do you guys deal with those bugs that explode on your front bumper, hood, and the windshield? I've hand washed my car twice and machine washed once, and most of the bugs are still there. How do I clean those damn things up?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Bugs on front Bumper from Long Distance Trips

lol.... i have a pic of my bumper after a 10-hour drive on the coast of Lake Huron and Lake Michigan... AT NIGHT!

I had literally 3,000 bugs splattered on the bumper. What i did was saturate the car with water to get off any excess bugs. Then I whiped the entire thing with an old beach towel. That got off 90% of the bugs! The remaining 10% were on the windshield AND the bumper and hood. So i took a paper towel wadded up and put a little soap on it. Then scrubbed with varying pressure, being sure not to scratch or swirl the hood.

As for the bumper... i dont care about my bumper and so i used full scrubbing force on all bugs. People shouldnt care about their bumpers so much. When you are getting ready to sell your car, simply go to a bodyshop and have it repainted for $200, it will look like NEW!

But temporarily, its not worth the hassle of keeping it blemishless. A bumper will never stay perfect/scratchless/blemishless/dentless

I have the clear bra on both cars so I plan on keeping them looking good regardless. Bugs, keep the bra waxed and they wipe off with little effort! And they don't stain or bubble the paint - an added bonus.

For the person without it, I have a can of 3M adhesive remover that I got at Ace Hardware, this stuff has a million uses and is guaranteed not to harm the paint. Basically a better bug and tar remover.

some detailing spray...and a good microfiber cloth...then just scrub and wipe them away...Microfiber won't scratch or leave swirl marks to your paint...G'luck

A Good wax job helps a lot but requires upkeep. I've been on road trips the last two weekends and sacrificed a few bugs with the G. I regularly wax and stuff comes off much easier. Newspaper and window cleaner are good on the windshield for the first "cut" of bugs. That will get about 95% of the mess. Follow with Stoners Invisible Glass (another believer in that product).

Turtle Wax used to (perhaps still does) make a product that easily removes bugs and road tar. It is basically a wax with a dissolving agent in it. After using, I apply a fresh coat of Meguires Hi-tech Yellow Wax to finish.

I use a Microfiber Wash Mitt - one side is a "power scrubber microfiber" and is great for removing bugs. It is slightly course, but since it is still made out of microfiber it doesn't scratch the finish. It takes off bugs with just soap and water.
