Paint Fading Question

When i bought my G in October, the tow hook cover was not included. I bought a new cover and had it painted to the factory color. Apparently my paint has faded rather drastically and the colors don't really match, although it is livable and better than having the front plate.

I'm sure this is a long shot question, but I would rather not pay to have to repainted. Is there a way to speed up the fading on this piece? ie., florescent lamp, etc.

Sorry that I don't have an answer to your question.

interesting question. leave it out in the sun etc? is your car parked outside? maybe putting it in a hotter area or something will help.

first, what color is your car? if you have Ivory Pearl, it is nearly impossible to get a 100% paint match

The car is Lazer Red and is garaged. I'm afraid that if i just park in the sun the car and the tow hook cover will both fade, and the tow hook cover will never "catch up". I thought if there was a way to put the towhook cover under some sort of light, to speed it up, that would be nice...

One thing I thought of was stripping the wax on the tow hook cover, but making sure the rest of the car is fully polished and waxed. Then, maybe the tow hook cover will fade faster than the front of the car...? I know, i'm stretching here.

why not have the car detailed and THAT will help bring back the faded paint to match the more recently painted piece? cheaper than a repaint and it will make the rest of the car look good too!

+1 for this idea, clean car and refreshed paint. Win-win situation.

^^^i agree, sounds like an idea to me....a detail will help your whole paint job, especially on a red car, if its even a 06 it could definetly use a detail if its never been done and the paint wasn't sealed or waxed regularly. cost will be around 250 to have a nice polish done i would estimate, ofcourse it can range about 100 bucks higher or maybe a little cheaper.

if you want you could also take the tow hook cover off and leave it out in the sun by itself, do this for about 1 or 2 weeks and it might make a difference.

The paint is in great shape. The front was painted just before I bought it, so I assumed it would match. I think they actually matched the painted to the rest of the faded car, so I don't know if detailing will really help. Probably should have mentioned that earlier.

It has been clay barred, polished and waxed recently, and still no luck.
I may pull it off and leave it in the sun for a while and then make sure I park in the shade! Have to wait until summer though, I don't think we get sun in Wisconsin until June...

Thanks guys, I will let you know how it goes.
