what polisher/cleaner do you recommend?

I have swirl marks all over my car that' I'm trying to remove and it's pretty bad on the hood. Will scratch x or 1z paint polish do the job?

ScratchX will prob do the job, but it's gonna be ALOT of work. If you are going to do the ScartchX I'd recommend going to the Meguiars Online site and looking at the instructions posted on how to use ScratchX.

Two other possible options :
1) Look for a professional detailer and have him get the swirls out
2) Buy yourself a Dual Action Polisher.

For some hints on detailing, you can look at http://www.meguiarsonline.com/

Also, if you are into detailing, they are running a special where if you are a member of Meguiars Online (free to register) you can get a Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher for $149.99.

Re: what polisher/cleaner do you recommend?

I've found that the Klasse All-In-One (AIO) synthetic car polish/Pinnacle Souveran carnuba wax combo works great. The Klasse AIO took out most or all of the swirl marks and hard water spots on my black G35 Sedan; it goes on as a base coat (and it removes old wax). Then you wait 12 hours, and apply the Pinnacle Souveran (liquid or paste) carnuba wax on top. This is a great wax solution...the best of both worlds -- the Klasse synthetic polish take out the swirls and lasts a long time (about 6 mo.) and the Pinnacle carnuba really deepens the mirror shine.

I bought both at a local car detailing shop ($25 each),but you can by both online at www.properautocare.com. Check it out!

BTW - I've tried Scratch X...doesn't do sh%t! I have a bottle sitting in my garage...anyone want it?

Re: what polisher/cleaner do you recommend?

The Klasse AIO will remove old waxes, including the Meguiars NXT (that was the first wax I tried, but it did nothing for the swirls and water spots and I just didn't like the results on my black G35 so after much research, I went with the Klasse AIO/Pinancle Liq. Souveran combo) but I have no idea about the Zaino.

You may get more info on www.properautocare.com and I bet you could call those guys if you have any questions too. ;-)

Thanks a lot for you help. How hard is it to use the klasse and did it get rid of most of your swirl marks? Thanks

The Klasse is very easy to use; like any other wax, it simply goes on and easily wipes off (but do it in the shade ;-), and it removes most of the swirl marks and all of any hard water spots as well. But, then, for the best, deepest mirror shine, don't forget to top it off with the Pinnacle Souveran carnuba (or another good carnuba) after waiting 12 hours after applying the Klasse AIO (it needs 12 hours to cure).

ok, just to be clear. nothing other than machine polishing will *remove* swirl marks. the only thing you are doing w/ sealants and waxes is hiding them. over time as they fade, the swirls will reappear.

Re: what polisher/cleaner do you recommend?

Ok, yes I agree, the swirls do come back after a few washes...not much you can do about that. However, I've tried several things including having my car buffed by a detail shop and nothing worked to remove (or hide) the swirl marks and get rid of the hard water spots until I did the Klasse AIO synthetic/Pinancle Souveran carnuba wax combo. Whether it just hides the swirls or not, it doesn't matter...I admit I do have some swirl marks again now, but it still looks good to me ;-)

Re: what polisher/cleaner do you recommend?

ScratchX may work if you follow the directions (look on the Meguirs site referenced above for specifics), but as I said, you will need a dual action polisher or a buffer to remove the swirls. I'd agree that the polish is only going to cover them up. That's why they come back.

If you get a dual action polisher, you can REMOVE the swirls with Meguiars Dual Action Cleaner Polish (also known as #83). I WOULD NOT recommend using a buffer yourself. Unless you have experience, you will make it worse.

I'll restate my original reply... Take it to a professional detailer or buy yourself a Dual Action Polisher.

Re: what polisher/cleaner do you recommend?

If you want to remove swirls and not just fill them in you want to use menzerna polishes with a dual action polisher like the porter cable 7424 or a circular polisher (for the experienced detailer). What's the difference? With these polishes you are actually removing a thin layer of the clear coat that evens out the scratch and removes it permanently. IMO this is a process that I would not do very often (maybe once every couple of years). But if your on top of things, you could get away with one use if you always protect your car from the natural elements (i.e. follow the polish application with a polymer sealant or carnuaba wax). Always following proper washing techniques. Proper washing techniques will prevent swirls from being reintroduced to your paint (ie. working top to bottom and using QUALITY microfiber towels for cleaning and drying). Back to menzerna, there are three levels of abrasiveness; power gloss, intensive polish, and final polish. I would start with the less abrasive intensive polish or the final polish. See if you get results. If not increase the speed of the machine polisher or go to the more abrasive polish.
This is a very brief recommendation to point you in the right direction. If you have any specific questions drop a PM.

Re: what polisher/cleaner do you recommend?

I use Meguries swirl remover with a microfiber towel and I remove it by hand. No power / electric buffing tools or anything are allowed to touch my car EVER!

Thanks - Joey Avino

Re: what polisher/cleaner do you recommend?

I just bought some Klasse AIO and have been waiting for a clear day/weekend to do the combo you're talking about. However, if it takes 12 hours for the Klasse to cure, what are you supposed to do if you have to drive around during that time? Wash the car again? I don't wanna risk rubbing in contaminants from that when applying the Pinnacle. I don't have a 2nd car, so that isn't an option. Just curious if you have any suggestions on how to handle that.

Re: what polisher/cleaner do you recommend?

it's the sealant glaze that you need to let cure. if you do drive it, just do a wipe down w/ a quick detailing spray and MF towel. if it gets realy dirty, then yes you will need to wash it again.
