Detailing old car

I am getting ready to sell my old subaru, but from reading the car care tips, it looks like I can do the detailing myself.

If I pay for a detailing (about $100) - will it really be better then if I do it?

thats what i was thinking. if you dont have all the equip and supples just pay someone to do it unless you plan on doing it more often in the future imo

Seriously? 200 dollars to clay and wax? At pepboys or autozone its 21 dollars for a claybar kit and prob $15-20 for a good wax...

So you do the math 200 dollars vs 35-40 dollars and a few hours out of your day..

Yea that's super high for clay and wax. Like I said that can be done by yourself for 40 bucks.. Hopefully they polish to get out any marring after they clayed the car.. And that's included in the 200.....otherwise stay away from that detailer...

$200 is around how much I charge for an ordinary sedan. 2 step polish along with a full exterior and interior detail. Clay/wax/engine bay detail and all that fun stuff included.

Keep in mind that a "full detail" involves more than wash, clay and wax. While much of it can be done by hand, some of it (removing the swirl marks) requires the use of a buffer and sometimes many hours of time.

When a car has swirl marks, there are polishes that will remove them and other polishes that will smooth out the finish after their removal. Dark cars are difficult even if they are not in poor condition. I have seen times when it took about 8 hours or more to get the job done right.

So, depending on what is done, always ask questions, it could cost $200 or more. There are many variables. This forum is an excellent place to start asking and getting opinions.

Good luck.
