Clear Bra Repair?
Clear Bra Repair?
Her is something that hasn't been touched upon, or has it? Lets say that arock or some other foreign object hits your car's clear bra and puts a blemish or tear in the clear coat (urethane , Vinyl, etc.)
1.) Is this covered under warranty?
2.) Whether it is or isn't covered, can it be repaired.....I mean can they actually remove the clear bra to replace it or will this strip your paint or leave a permanent residue????
I have serious reservations, and just need reassurance from those who own it or sell it.
TIA

Re: Clear Bra Repair?
Funny you mention it.....I just posted the following on another thread:
"A bit of irony with all the clear bra talk lately....Got home this afternoon and noticed a small spot on my hood. Seems something hit it without me knowing and it actually tore the material. I can't tell if it made it through to the paint, but it's now a noticeable spot on the bra, albeit better than a spot in the paint. I'm just surprised it happened so easy and I never knew anything hit it. I've had it less than a month and now am wondering really how susceptible the product is to tearing. Surely their warranty will cover this."
I hate to think I'll have to be replacing the product every time a little debris hits it. Of course, it's still better than ruining the paint as there is no warranty covering that.

Re: Clear Bra Repair?
Jedi,
That's a good question/point. It really depends on the supplier. For me, I went with www.clearbra.net (custom install), and I specifically asked about this. The local installer (Al Kinney - al@clearbraoregon.com) told me "just bring the car in, we'll replace it". But it would have to be a really BIG rock to get through this bra - it's 12 mills thick (and 20 mills on the headlights!) which is a good 50% (or more) thicker than most of the regular pre-cut bras (which are usually 8 mills). Of course, I've only had it for about a week or 2 now, so I can't say that it is totally impervious - but it's tough stuff.
Oh also, all of the clear bra's I know of (not just the brand I got) say they will not damage your paint and are removable. They also supposedly do not leave a residue (but since I haven't tried to remove mine, I can't say for sure).
When I got mine installed, Al showed me how the material stuck to the surface, and then he pulled it up to show that no adhesive remained on the surface. However, this doesn't prove that over time, some adhesive might stay. He claims it won't, and he was re-doing a corvette which had a clear bra for a couple years - and it didn't have any residue, but who knows after 10 years?

Re: Clear Bra Repair?
I'm in Oregon. I got mine done at clearbraoregon (sorry, no website yet). If you're in the Portland, Oregon area, send an e-mail to Al Kinney at al@clearbraoregon.com. Tell him Eric Cha sent ya.

Re: Clear Bra Repair?
I had Jeremy at Invisiguard in Santa Rosa do mine. There were a couple of places closer to me, but he came highly recommended and did a beautiful job. I wanted someone who had done a few coupes before. Give him a call 707 546-4047. Tell him Les in Oakland sent you.

Jedi,
Go to www.clearbra.net (national website) - it has a list of dealer/installers. I would think that there is a dealer/installer in Sacramento area.. I paid $850 (pricey - yes). But as I've mentioned elsewhere (other thread) they used thicker material (12 mills) and they covered the ENTIRE hood (front to back), the headlights/foglights (with 20 mill material), the entire front bumper, the front half of the front fenders, the backs of the side mirrors, the edges of the doors, and the front portion of my rear wheel wells. Price included installation (of course, since it's a custom job, not a pre-cut kit).
Cheers!
