Srcratches on Hood of Black Coupe
Hi,
Well, my coupe is a little over 3 weeks old and first let me say, that its my first new car and Im loving it. Now to the bad stuff. Last week I went out of town on business and parked the coupe in the garage at home. When I came back I saw that the hood of the car was all scratched up, in the paint and everything. Turns out my 10 year old bro thought he was trying to help when he saw he dust on my car by cleaning it off with his hands. Now I dont know if he only used his hands or what, but the scratches are real bad. I went and took it to the dealer and said, that since its a black car, he doesnt even want to try to buff it out. Aside from repainting it he said hell have his head detailer take a look at it and also have the detail shop that they go trhough look at it and let me know. What do you think I should do. The scratches cant really be seen in the dark but are very apparent in the sun and when light is shined on the hood. Look a little bit worse than swirl marks left from waxing. What do you guys think I should do, what the best way to get this fixed? Ill post again once the dealer calls back and I have more information but any of your guys help or advice will be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Srcratches on Hood of Black Coupe
Okay, so the dealer called me back and said that that the detailer will charge 100 bucks and should be able to get all the scratches out with some sort of special buffer. This a good idea or not? I mean the dealer was saying the only other option would be to repaint the thing.
Re: Srcratches on Hood of Black Coupe
Some car care product lines have special waxes/polishes that can fill scratches. For example Zaino has a product called Z5 that helps fill surface scratches/swirls:
Zaino Z5
I have used it and it works very well, although it is admittedly best used on minor imprefections, not deep marks or scratches. As far as I know there are no magic tricks to replace clearcoat and paint that was deeply scratched off.

Re: Srcratches on Hood of Black Coupe
Take some close up pics from different angles and email them to me. High speed buffing is likely necessary based on your description of the problem, but if not done properly can damage paint or take too much off the top layer of the paint.
