i now wash my car with soft/ purified water...
we got a water purifier for the entire house and i have to say that washing the car with soft water, compared to hard water, is like night and day! the car actually does look shinier and cleaner and is way easier to dry, just a cruise around the block and mostly all of the water either washes away or is evaporated... and now the soap is even foamier and i need to use less per wash.
it only costs like @ $2k to get installed in your house and i totallly recommend it!
anyone else have this at home?

Hey, that's cool! I agree, I don't have a water purifier installed, but I use de-ionized water, I buy it in those gallon jugs from the grocery store, and use a pump sprayer (garden sprayer) to wash the car, you are absolutely right, it does dry easier, and I never dry my wheels off, and not a single spot! (I wash the tires and wheels with tap water, then rinse with the de-i water) The car does look cleaner than using tap water for sure. I usually use 4-6 gallons, depending on how dirty the car is, so it costs less than $5. I would like at some point to get a purifier system though!

Yeah, I have water softener with a carbon filter before the system to filter out chlorine, and a 5 stage reverse osmosis pure drinking water machine under kitchen sink--best shower, best drink, best car wash, laundry and pipe saving water hands down--all for $1300 installed. In the houston area, I can give you number if you request, plus a number to a perfect priced sprinkler system co. that does NOT damage your lawn when installed.
water spots arent really an issue unless you wash in the direct sunlight. i wash either early morning or in the evening and don't have any spotting problems but i normally do if i wash in sunlight.
also, using filtered water won't make a difference if you are using a show-quality car polish such a Zaino which protects the surface from chemical and mineral buildup and such, which I would assume anyone that would go to the extent of purifying their car washing water would be using.
if you notice a difference between tap water and filtered water after a wash then I would seriously consider using a better wax or polish.

In my case, I did not get this for my car (water softener) . I choose to use the spigot that is soft water. The installer put two spigots that are hard water--the rest are the ones from the builder which are soft water. I choose to hook the hose on the soft water spigots--Just because I have it and it requires less soap and is easier to dry and all that good stuff.
