Talking Black Top?

Hey all.

My sister has a 06 G35 white coupe and as a present, I have been thinking about getting some exterior work on it. One thing I think she would like is a black top. I may be thinking too much, but is it just a simple paint job to get the top black or is there some special film/material placed onto it?

Thanks!!!

you have two options you could either painted or vinyl it, Oh wait or you could plastidip it as well.

Personally I recommend vinyl.
Btw I believe this is in the wrong section, lol.

Thanks alot for the info!!! I honestly did not know where to post this

When you say "vinyl"....is that the same as an "overlay" because I found some guy who provides custom overlays? Could you explain why you prefer vinyl over paint?

Thanks again!!!!!

Vinyl can be better as it can be removed in case you want to or want to sell it to someone who doesn't like a black roof, plastidip can also be removed, I tried the dip on my roof but failed as I did only one coat with one can and it couldn't stop off easily! Never again, I'll try vinyl or carbon fibre next time as I had to use a razor blade to get the dip off and scratched the roof...

I recommend vinyl since it can be removed for re sale. But if you dont care to get more money I would paint it as it looks much better!

Thanks for the input! Any recommendations to a good spot in LA for vinyl wrapping? She would prefer that, but she does not plan on selling it so feel free to provide any spots for a paint job. She actually likes the way this car was done (see picture)

Im in the east coast. Come my way and I can help otherwise you are on your own. Her car will look great when all is said and done. BTW what color is her car? Dark, light? Just trying to visualize how it will come out. Does she have anything else done to the car?

I think the technical name for the color is Pearl White. She just a few things: tinted windows, blacked out the emblems with PlastiDip and had the tail lights tinted through some guy who specializes in overlays. I got a hold of him a few weeks ago, but I'm trying to find a spot who can do the actual vinyl wrap because his material takes about 4 hours for one spot to do and it's a bit far from her so I'm trying to find something more local.

Can someone redirect me to the right part of this forum where I can post information about purchasing a vinyl wrap?

The help with be much appreciated!!!
