Cool So many Zainos... which should I get?

Hey!!

So, I finally have some time to clean by Black sedan in the coming weeks! In fact, I even ordered the Big Blue II towels today!

I decided to wax or applying Zainos onto my car, and I don't know which Zainos I should get. I have never waxed my car before.... I did a search and seems everyone recommands Z6?

Thanks for reading this thread!

each zaino product has its own purpose..

z5- hides swirls+ gives a nice glossy shine
z2- gives the deepest, richest, glossiest shine out there
z6- detailing spray you use after applications, enhances the shine and gloss

you should also get the zaino wash

go to www.zainobros.com

the guy probably spent years describing every product and its purpose and when/ how to apply them

I just got the Ultimate package - it seemed to have one of everything I wanted and then the leather cleaner too. I priced out the package and getting it saves you something like $25.

Thanks for the replies!

BBB,

After reading that website, I'm wondering if I should get the ZFX™ Flash Cure Accelerator Additive. Is it necessary? And should I get the claybar too?

So, before I apply the Z7, do I need to wash the car with other soap first?

Zaino is a combination of many layers at first. Then, you can use the Z7 shampoo, Z2 polish, then Z6 quick detail.

If you do a search, there are more details as to what you should do, but here's a quick one:
1) Wash the car with blue Dawn (to remove all previous wax/polymers and impurities). Dry off
2) Wash with Z7 shampoo. Dry off
3) Apply thin layer of Z1 car show gloss lock. DO NOT wipe off
4) immediately apply Z2 polish using back/forth strokes on the hood, trunk, and top, while using vertical strokes on the sides. This enhances the gloss in conjunction with the way the sun refracts off the car.
5) Wait til dry. Use the "finger" test by swiping your finger through the polish. If it streaks clean, its dry. If it smears, not dry.
6) Optional: you may apply more layers of Z2
7) Touch off with Z6 quick detail. You use this between washes as well. Just spray and wipe, that simple.
It may sound like alot of work, but trust me, its not. After the initial cleaning, regular washes with Z7 and polish with Z2, then Z6 if needed.
No 'wax on/ wax off' procedures, no swirls, no worries about getting wax on the rubber because you can use Z2 on EVERY part of the exterior.
You can even use the Z6 on your rims/tires. very dust resistant (just learned that recently myself).
Hope this helps.

oops, almost forgot to explain the ZFX. Its an additive to the Z2 to quicken the curing (drying) process in higher humidity or cooler temperature areas. I live in Hawaii, so drying is not always a problem, but the humidity does come into play sometimes.

Anyway, here's a link to Sal Zaino's recommended procedures. If you ever have questions, you can email him directly.

Cool

Thanks, tod071!

Your posts are really helpful! I did a search on the forum, and I could not really understand the functions of all those Zs... they all sound like the same thing to me

I have some mundane scratches on my car; will the Z5 "heal" the scratches somehow? If so, when should I apply the Z5?

And I live in SoCal, I guess ZFX is not ncecssary.

btw, what is Blue Dawn?

(also thanks for your fast reply!)

Z5 is normally used in place of Z2 (if im not mistaken), it hides swirls but doesn't give the same shine as Z2. I don't think it will hide scratches, but it may diminish their appearance.

I would use ZFX for your first application even in SoCal. I used it in NorCal and it sped things up quite a bit.

Oh, and blue dawn is just Dawn Liquid Soap (for dishes) in the blue variety.

So, I either apply Z5 or Z2, not at same time, right?

picus112, do you use use the blue dawn thing too? It sounds weird to use dishwashing stuffs to clean the car....

I've never used Z5 so I can't give you a 100% answer to your first question. All I have ever used is Z2 and I love it. I know some folks love Z5 also because it hides swirls so well. If you have swirls I would probably go with Z5.

I did use blue dawn the first time I applied Zaino, now I use Z7, Z2 then Z6 (wash, pollish, detail). I believe Mr. Zaino specifically recommends blue dawn before using Zaino products for the first time to get rid of any imperfections on the paint. The process I used the first time was much like above.

1) Wash with blue dawn
2) Use claybar with Z7 to lube
3) Wash with Z7 and dry
4) Apply Z1, do not wipe
5) Apply Z2 (or Z5)
6) Z6

Enjoy!

Alright! Last questions!

Is the Z18 ClayBard recommanded? If not, which should I use?
And which sponge is recommanded?

I used the Z-18 claybar and the sponges that came with the ultimate package. Someone else may have better info on the sponges, though.

z5 and z2 are interchangable. Use z5 till the swirls are removed then apply z2. remember not more than three coats in one day when mixed with zfx
