not valuable? Correct? What about the rust proofing (we live in a highly salted area)
Also, how do I recognize a high quality MF towel? Won't the ones from target be nice enough? Do I really have to special order them?

the newer ones at Target sold under the Vroom label are decent. Viking towels can be found at autozone and walmart I believe. don't quote me on that. Meguiar's new gold class line are good. Can't go wrong with those. I have their towels in my assortment and do prefer them to viking products.
After spending a ton of money on various detailing products I have started looking for ways to reduce my costs and also minimize my time. As for maintaining the car, there are alot of products you could use. The easier the better. Alot of what you use will depend on how much you're willing to spend and how much effort you want to put into it. Alot of people will preach Zaino products and they are in fact good products but for me are too time consuming to deal with multiple layers, etc.

thank goodness, those (Vroom) are the ones I picked up today. But I use them for all my cleaning needs, not just auto, so IMO one can never have too many MF towels.
I also have some NicSands, which I bought on clearance about a year ago online from someone going out of business. I really like those but again, I'm using them on my wood floors, for dusting, cleaning electronics.
Yeah, I mentioned 'clay baring' to my husband and I don't think that's something he wants to do. I can't see him going through the multiple application process. Wash, wax, that's about all I can really see him doing.

Not sure about the rust protection.
Using a clay bar and polish is really no big deal. If you ever want to touch up your ride with it let me know and I can explain what each does and why it's not risky or anything like that. Clay bar essentially removes and ultra thin layer of your clear coats surface and pulls the contamination out. A polish has a similar effect and that it gets rid of any old wax and then shines the clear coat to give your paint the optimal shine before waxing. Waxing will not make the G shine more just protect what it has already there.
Since the MF towel touch your paint a lot during removal of wax and during drying you want to make sure you invest in good ones so you don't risk scratching your paint. Some of the cheap ones have nylon threads or are not plush. I use these towels and have been very happy with them although I do realize that there are cheaper options out there.
