Anyone Have Side Mirrors Paint Fade?

You got red paint on the cloth when you waxed them? That means there is no clear, which means they either came with no clear or they've been repainted. If they came with no clear they might be oxidizing, in which case you could polish them to bring back the shine. If they've been re-painted it could be overspray, and the remedy is the same - polish them to remove the overspray. What I would do in the short term is grab some Meg's ScratchX and a terry applicator and try rubbing some on one of the mirrors. You have to rub with a little force, otherwise just follow the directions. If the shine starts to come back then go from there. If not it might require a more aggressive method, like machine polishing.
I was under the impression that like the rest of the care the mirrors had a clearcoat. Weird.

Interesting this thread got brought back from the dead. I've detailed ~30 or so G35's since 09/05 and the black and red ones are all single stage mirrors. Other colors are cleared, so black and red will get you paint transfer. It's interesting since Infiniti black and red are clearcoated on the rest of the car. I think they must paint the mirrors in a seperate facility and put them on the car later.
So no, warranty will not cover this. What you need is to polish away the oxidized layer of the single stage paint, then seal them with a sealant or wax.

Since they're single stage they have the protection of urethane enamels in the pgimented paint; so going over that with a clear coat isn't a great idea. The downside is with the extensions clear coated and the mirrors not it might not be a perfect match. if at all possible I'd have the mirrors re-painted then then cleared to match the extensions.
Thanks. I will have to speak to the body shop since this presents another wrinkle. I wasn't originally planning to paint the mirrors. The body shop believed the extensions would be a simple job just by themself.
