Using a machine vs hand?
Hey Guys... I was wondering for applying Klasse... or anything else on your car.. is it easier/better to use a machine or to do it by hand? I konw that doing it by machine would be easier.. but would it be better???? I was looking at the Porter Cable 7424 Polisher.

pestilence, I've been using a Craftsman orbital buffer for years using only Meguire's yellow #26. It's easier for sure but I still have to apply/remove some areas i.e. curves, hard angles by hand. I still go over with a towel afterwards to catch anything missed and for that awesome tactile feeling of a freshly waxed surface. For the wide open spaces and smooth curves like on the G, I think the buffer will make quick work of your detail job. It's easier to be more consistent in protection application and removal with a machine. The PC 7424 seems to be the machine of choice. When mine breaks, that'll be the one I target. If you're new to exterior detailing, consider doing the work by hand a couple of times to know what kind of results to expect when you start using a machine. ...dean

Deatailed my G35 this weekend, used the porter cable 7424 with a white foam pad to apply Klasse All-In-One and removed it by hand with a micro-fiber cloth. Applied the High Gloss Sealant Glaze by hand with a micro-fiber applicator pad and then buffed off the residue with the porter cable 7424 with a micro-fiber bonnet. LOOKS FANTASTIC!!!! Will probably put on another coat of High Gloss Sealant Glaze next weekend.

Pest... I've also had my 7424 for some time. The only problems I've had are getting into corners where the machine wouldn't fit. Those are the places I do by hand. As long as you use the right pads, you should have no problem with the curves. Check out http://www.properautocare.com/porcabpolac.html for lots of 7424 accessories and "how to" steps.

Pest, remember that you can always add a coat of carnuba wax after the Klasse. This will really add dept to the paint. I use Griots Garage carnuba. It has a really high wax content and the price is fair. I used to use Zymol Japon, way too expensive at $120 a tub. Keep the Klasse on and for extra pop hit with some carnuba(yellow wax). You can use it with machine or without. I also do use a wool pad on my buffer after I'm done but I use light pressure. It seems to even out the finish.

Re: Using a machine vs hand?
I'm interested in a Porter Cable #7424, and found a Home Depot that sells them. Do they come with a selection of pads and applicators or are they sold separately?
Any other tips on the use of this polisher? thanks

They are sold seperately. A good place to chec is www.properautocare.com. They carry all the pads as well as the PC 7424. You can even order a package that includes the buffer and several pads as well as the velcro faced backing pad. Prices are pretty good as well.
