Crystal Guard/swirl marks

hey, im gonan get some CG soon and use it, but i have some swirl marks and some embedded bugs and stuff in my wax/paint that i should use claybar on. so my question is, should i claybar it first then apply the CG? or is it ok just to go ahead and wash and apply CG. if i have to claybar, which one should i use and where do i get it? i hate detailing...argh

Re: Crystal Guard/swirl marks

well if you want to do it right, you should claybar first then get those swirlmarks buffed out, then apply CG

When i say buffed out, i mean to use an orbital polisher to sand down the clearcoat (microscopic layer of scratches) and NOT to use a swirlmark filler.

The lazy way would be just to put on some CG...

i used Mother's clay bar... got it at Pep boys (local auto parts store) for $15. Its very good, took a ton of bad water spots right out.

There are others on the market, but couldn't comment on them.... have not heard good things about the Mequires one though.

Re: Crystal Guard/swirl marks

Anyone have pics of these claybars I have seriously never seen them.
I have to remove my swirls and than apply the CG sometime. I'll do this when I get my second car.

Thanks - Joey Avino

Does CG hide swirlmarks like Zainos Z-5. I thought CG was just a finishing product.

no pictures of clay, but its just a soap bar sized piece of clay... the kits come with some kind of liquid that is used as a "lubricant" for the clay bar. You spray the lube on and then rub the clay over the surface.

Re: Crystal Guard/swirl marks

what kind of motion do you use to rub the clay bar?

A circular motion or front to back?
