Does sedan tinting require back seat removal?
Does sedan tinting require back seat removal?
I want to get a 35% tint (legal limit here in NC). It looks as though I'm going to need to have the rear deck removed which also requires removing/disassembling the rear seats.
Is that correct?

Re: Does sedan tinting require back seat removal?
Well,
I had mine done a few months back and in order to do it right they will have to take the rear seats out along w/ the rear deck and side panels.

Re: Does sedan tinting require back seat removal?
Find a shop that uses a computer and cutter to make the cuts. This is very precise and fits the windows extremely well. They have the car on file from their main company which fitted the car so it is precise
Mine is the best tint Job I have ever gotten and there are no seams etc.
Just an FYI
Have a healthy day!
93 J30t, Black on Black (sold as of 9/10)
03.5 G35, Black on Black

Re: Does sedan tinting require back seat removal?
Had mine done w/ 19% quantum (no limit in CA on rears with 2 side mirrors)
Did not have to remove the seats. No seams that I can see??? I'll take a better look after my first cup of coffee...it's still oh-dark thirty in CA..
'03 Sedan 5a: Silver/Graphite, Premium, Aero/Body, Sport, Nav
SolarGard Quant. Tint 19% r, 28% fr, & just a tad more than 4" of 50% on the windshield

Re: Does sedan tinting require back seat removal?
The shop that did my tint does most of the cars for the various new car dealers in the area. They didn't remove anything but the rear headrests when they did the rear window. It looks great.
Re: Does sedan tinting require back seat removal?
Had my 03 sedan tinted all around about 6 months ago. They did not remove anything other than the rear headrests in order to get the back window. They did an excellent job and I've had no issues with the tinting at all.
Re: Does sedan tinting require back seat removal?
They only removed the headrests and did a wonderful job...

Legal Limits for CA & other states
California is as follows:
* 4" down from top of windshield
* 70% front (driver/passenger) clear, colorless, and
transparent material may be applied if the following conditions are met:
(1) The material has a minimum visible light transmittance of 88%. notice the confusion in this one? State says 88%, federal says 70%. In any case, guess who loses?!
(2) The window glazing with the material applied meets all
requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 205 (49 C.F.R. 571.205), including the specified minimum light transmittance of 70 percent and the abrasion resistance of AS-14 glazing, as specified in that federal standard.
(3) The material is designed and manufactured to enhance the ability of the existing window glass to block the sun's harmful ultraviolet A rays. And you must have a document in the car from the installer stating that your tint complies with state law.
* ANY % Rear (passenger)
* ANY % on Back - no opaque lettering or ability to reflect headlights into the eyes of other drivers.
Tinting may only be green, grey or neutral smoke. Red and Amber are specifically banned.
Must not increase reflectivity more than 35%
Left and right door mirrors are manadatory
No certificate/permit required from state.
Medical exemption allows for front doors @35% if readily removable.
Must be removed if color alters, or tint bubbles/tears.
ALL visiting cars to the state of California are subject to these requirements. So NV & AZ folks better be careful sporting your 35%'s!
Remember, this is not a legal document and it supplied for soley for your general pleasure. It's a good idea to visit your state's DMV site.

Re: Does sedan tinting require back seat removal?
Removing the rear seats is a waste of time and shows how flexible the installer and shop is that needs to remove panels/seats when not necessary.
Re: Does sedan tinting require back seat removal?
Didn't have to remove anything on mine either. 20% tint all around.....however, there is a slight seem on the 2 back small windows. The tint guys say nothing is perfect....total BS! Other than that, my tint looks good.......had it for 3 months now.
