Next project is to install my Eibach ProKit. Moderate 1" drop, I won't put my Nismos on until I get my drop. I kind of want to go for the car overhaul. Also planning on clear corners and debadge. Maybe at the end of the year a Nismo front !

^ why mess with a decent suspension by simply lowering it? I've never understood that about car folks. If there's no handling value to lowering your car for the way you drive then there's no reason to do it.

Reason for the drop.....fender gap is fugly. And aftermarket springs have are stiffer which does improve handling, sucks for bumpy roads though.

though i've lowered my G, it does reduce your strut travel which isn't a good thing by any means. the best way to get rid of fender gap is a body where the fender comes down lower....

but alas, I have a lowered G and she does look hot!

it just makes the car way too rough to drive is what I've seen. and the decrease in strut travel really diminishes some of the more forgiving handling traits of the car.

I just really have learned over the years that unless you're going to dedicate a car to the track or as a 2nd weekend car then it's too harsh of driving conditions to lower cars. There's other performance mods like sways and strut bars or even upgrading shocks to increase performance.

What was the purpose of buying the LMGT4's? Was it performance based? I highly doubt it, you got them because you like the way they make your car look. Same reason most people buy springs. I think your car looks great as is, but personally I think it would look that much better with a moderate drop.

I got my wheels b/c I get a wider tire setup on them and they're a tad lighter than my factory wheels. I battled with the fact that the gains were nominal for weight but the benefit was large on getting 275s to fit wheel on the back.

No it's not the same as buying springs.

My ride quality was not diminished by getting new wheels. There wasn't really a cost to getting new wheels.

Lowering comes at a cost to handling, tire wear, and ride quality. I just really disagree with you that the wheels are the same thing as springs. What costs are there to my driving with the wheels that makes it the same?

btw I did toy with the fact of getting 18"s instead for the precise reason of benefiting my ride quality and lowering my cost on tires. I just couldn't find a set for the right price.

I think this part is the key failure in understanding. stiffer does not equal improved handling.

Perhaps that's true on perfectly smooth track conditions but in the real world having some forgiveness in your suspension is of great benefit for spirited driving. I like to think of it as a parabolic curve. At some point the benefits of the height of a car being lower for center of gravity are overcome by the costs of having to drive it and frankly costs to the handling of the car itself. I think if performance is your game then changing to adjustable shocks or even firmer shocks is of more gain to you than springs. In fact if you do get springs I think it's wise to go ahead and get shocks that will complement it so that the new springs don't have to ride on such a short distance which will hopefully prevent that goofy bouncing look you see on so many lowered cars (bad for their handling as well).

At the end of the day though it's your car and you have to drive it. My thoughts on it are my own and I'll leave you to yours. I just frankly find it a waste of time and money for something that will make your life more difficult. You'll have to go around speed bumps at crazy angles. You'll scratch your exhaust or other underbody parts. Basically you'll just have to be that much more extra careful when driving a car that's too low for real strets.

An alternative may be a coilover setup with adjustable springs and shocks so that you can have it slammed for car shows or track days or whatever it is you want to lower your car for while also having it at a reasonably comfortable ride height to handle the grocery store or an outing with friends or driving to work. Again for handling though pick yourself up some nice sways/struts/shocks and I think you'll be much happier with the gains and the costs (in a general sense not a dollars and cents) will be much more nominal.

oh and lotsa people do it (lowering for looks) so my opinion is a minority one of very few. no need to take it seriously. I'm sure most people on this board would be amenable to your thoughts on the topic.

oh! if you're looking for tires for your new wheels some of my favorite tires have been bridgestone potenza S03 pole position IIs (discontinued model since last year)

anyways they're half off almost everywhere now. tires-easy.com has the rears i nthe size your need for $267 a piece (originally $380) and the fronts for $255 a piece (originally $420)

It's still a little more than a grand but these tires will last FOREVER (by that I mean about 25-30K miles)

I've always used these all weather tires in the past b/c they're a good blend of tread life, dry performance, and wet performance. You can get cheaper tires but nothing that compares to these for that price. When I got them a year ago they were basically giving them away at a set for $850 shipped however even at this price it's not a bad deal.

GL with your new nismos!

I understand what you are saying, and when I say that aftermarket springs improve handling, I am really talking about for other model cars. The stock G suspension is decent, so I really am not expecting but a slight improvement honestly. As for tire wear I believe that with a camber kit you can honestly not destroy your tires with a lowered car.

As for tires I decided on Falken FK452's. The fronts were $300 shipped (245/35/19), and the rears were about $500. The Falkens get pretty good reviews from fellow G owners on these forums so I feel pretty good about 'em.

civic my man... you got all fired up yesterday didn't you... haha...

and still reppin the pole positions... i remember when those first came out. you and mantis were more excited than kids in candy stores

and just a fun little fact about our man civic... first night I crossed paths with him, it was almost me vs him and 4 of his boys... damn that was a funny thread the next day didn't even know it was him

nothing to hate on my fellow G amigos, but you definitely see more G owners going for style as opposed to performance. any 20" wheel with a 3" lip sure does look hot as hell, but god forbid those things way any less than 30lbs a pop
