clay bar and cleaning is crucial... a coat or two of wax will help in the long run, but to get out stuff that's already there... i think the experts have given quite a bit of great info

The guy who repaired a wheel for me said to only use either Eagle One Aluminum Wheel cleaner (which is NON-ACIDIC and won't hurt clear-coat) or simply soap/water. I would imagine there are other companies out there who make a non-acidic cleaner as well. As for anodized or other types of wheels, I have no idea.
