New Rotors

So, I got with TH Motorsports and bought some new rotors that arrived today. Yay me! No more crazy vibrations from me when braking.

Got just some simple power slot slotted rotors with Hawk HPS pads.

It feels ricer, but I'm contemplating painting my rotors, but I can't think of a color that would look right. Thoughts? Probably will install later today. Fun!

Why not paint the calipers black? That would look sweet!

Same rotors I picked up except I had mine cryo treated! Awesome rotors so far, even with my semi-race pads! I'm debating going back to Hawk HPS for daily driving, my Project Mu pads dust like a b!tch!

well, past the seating period and I'm not sure... they don't seem to have the same "bite" as the stock rotors/pads. They definitely stop better and faster (from what I can tell), but don't grab as hard... Someone told me the Hawk pads didn't reach their full potential till they were hot.

I didn't get a chance to paint the calipers as I was running behind. Had problems with both sides.

Had a hell of a time getting the rotors off as they had never been removed. Needless to say, that was irritating/entertaining. And for some reason the pads where an absolute pain in the *** to put in the caliper. No clue why that was so difficult. Of course, it was also my first time to deal with dual piston calipers. Had fun with the c-clamp and those bad boys... haha

Haha yeah, when I swapped my rotors took forever. Mine does the same. In the morning traveling to work it doesn't bite but after getting warmed up they bite.

As I mentioned, I am not a huge fan of the HPS pads. I don't think they have a lot of initial bite, and they stink in the rain. I do think they stop reasonably well for a street pad, are quite, and they are really low dust....

I also thought the pads ran a little big (wide) with my Stoptech kit, and I ended up shaving off a small amount of material on each end to make them easier to get in/out of the caliper. It was a freaking wrestling match before I did that....

I have tried 4-5 different pads, and I think it is really about what sacrifice you are willing to make. Low dust=less bite, less stopping power, and more fade. More dust (and noise)=more bite, better stopping power, and less fade after repeated stops.

I think I am going to try some Project Mu pads next. They make 2 different ones for the G37 Sport brakes (Akebono). I think B-force and Type-NS are the two. The B-Force are more street/track pad, and the Type-NS is a strait street pad. If anyone has feedback on either (Jon?), let me know.... I am also thinking about the Ferodo DS2500's, they are a street/track pad, but are about twice as much as the Project Mu's.

blueBOB, sounds like we had the same experience with rotors and pads. I had a lot of vibration when braking at high speed. I tried to get them swapped out or resurfaced under warranty, but I read that oem 06 rotors heat and warp rather easily. I know the c-clamp you speak of very well. I renamed it the "hell clamp". I got stop tech drilled and slotted replacements. I ended up getting Wagner rear pads from O'Reilly's. They seems to work just fine. I still have about 60-70% pad left on front so I didn't mess with it. I don't think I would put Wagner on the front though.

I'm now looking for longer studs for my rear hubs. I got like four good turns with the crowbar and my wheels were on tight. I would like a little more thread to bolt down on.

I'm using Project Mu HC+. If you look at the specs (here: http://www.project-mu.co.jp/e/product/hc-plus.html), they are a little more agressive than the Type NR and much more race ready than the B-spec and don't even look at the Type NS IMHO. The HC+ are absolutely incredible, they have sooooo much bite and they definitely are very fade resistant. My first outing with these brakes at the track, I cooked the paint on my OEM brembo's and discolored them . Now of course the downside is they dust like crazy. They have been wearing very well for the type of pad they are but I think that has a lot to do with a good bedding that I did when I first put them on.

If you haven't picked up new pads before the next meet you can check mine out.

See, I don't drive my car much during the week. I have a beater and even if I did, the commute is 2.5 miles. Though they aren't biting as hard as the stockers did, I still think they are doing a good job of stopping. May not be for a while till I get to see them warmed up and in action.

And yes, that was part of the pain on the install of those pads. I thought I was just doing something wrong, glad to hear I wasn't the only one that struggled like hell to get them in. I even screamed at one point "this isn't supposed to be this hard!" I was so mad at those pads. It really was a battle to squeeze them in.

But as hound said, my rotors were done and were warped to hell. I'm not THAT bad on them in my opinion and tried to get them warrantied, but Grubbs didn't bite. I said, these things warped pretty bad pretty fast and I drive hard from time to time, but not THAT hard. (shrug) Oh well, these should last me for as long as I need.
