Your clutch *could* be giving up the ghost.....but I hope not.

+1 on traction. The rest will fall into place after you master the spin-free launch.

I hope your not talking about ChicagoX because he is a great contributer to this forum unlike a few other people. He has done a lot of testing on mods over the past few years.

Clutch is in great shape, fortunately. It's only got a handful of passes on it.

What really has me perplexed is spinning should yield you higher traps, but worse times...and the last two times for you have been only in the 100 range...and yes, the 80F temps when you trapped 102 is freaking me out too...could something be wrong with the car? Is anything leaking, ticking, etc???

Keep me posted as I hate to see backwards progress after mods...also, have you dynoed the car b/f and after your mods? I am curious if you lost upper RPM HP or some BS like that??? I just wish I knew to help you out ya know...but the Drag Radials are a must on 16 Rims and you could see 13.4s dude.

As for the 350Zs...the really, really good drivers may see high 13s...like 13.8-13.9, but I have never seen it here at NE Drag Way...I have personally never lost to a 350Z and that was with my Sedan...the best they ran was 14.1 I believe...they always trapped higher, but never got there quicker...and these were all modded 6 spds vs. my Auto...
Dude, now this is funny. Over the weekend I was looking at some of your old posts to see what kind of wheel/tire setup you were using. One of your posts had a link to the tires and the wheels. The link for the tires was still valid, but not for the wheels.

I found some Enkei wheels at EdgeRacing that have piqued my interest. They're 16x7, 16lb's each. 5x114.3, 38mm offset. They're only $79 a piece.

I thought about mating them with some BFG DR's, sized 255/50/16. The 255 may be a bit wide for a 7 inch wheel, but the tire specs show a range of 7 to 9 inches.

I'd love to spend the money on the setup. But it would be around $500 altogether(tires, wheels, shipping, mount & balance). I don't think I'll be able to swing it until next year, with Christmas and my 10 year anniversary coming up.

Trey,

With as much racing as you do, I would pass on the BFGs and go with slicks. There is a pretty big difference between the overall traction of a slick vs a DR. Since you'll only use the wheels at the strip, why not pay the extra total $30 and get all the traction possible?

Slicks are a PITA unless you have another vehicle go with you and you can have them lug the slicks and jack, etc...or unless you can throw it all in your trunk and have a safe place to store your jack and oem wheels/tires...which I don't...and I had the BFGs for my mustang...still do, and they suck *****...but I know BFG has changed their Drag Radials so maybe the new ones are good, but the Rage Rims and Nitto Drag Radials work the **** and they were not expensive and the nittos, when heated are very, very soft...believe me...plenty soft enough for a G35...

B/F I got the Rage rims and Nittos I just used the Fox 5 16's on Bridgestone Blizzaks...215/55 R 16s baby...that's what got my stock sedan down to a 14.2...just taking off the oem 17'' rims and tires....

I've considered the slicks, but a guy in the office discourages them, at least for right now. He said slicks will get "happy", and wobbly, at the top-end. And if I don't have experience handling the car at that speed, under those conditions(which I don't), to just stick with DR's. I countered that I'd only be going 100mph, but he said they'll still be flaky even at that speed.

Do you have any idea how much the nittos weigh?

Must be a NE thing that you have to protect your property even at the track At the three tracks I've raced at over the years here in KC and MO, I've always been able to leave my wheels, jack, and tools in my pit. I've never had a problem with things getting stolen and I can't ever remember any of my friends having trouble either. I use to have BFG DRs I used for my Maxima and G35 I was able to get them in the trunk with the jack and tools. It took about 15 minutes to do the swap.

Yes, slicks won't handle like a regular radial tire, but they should "wobble" or get "happy" as the MPHs increase. They're a little more bouncy because of the low PSI (~12-15psi). With slicks, you could air them up and make them perform like DRs (stiffer, less traction) or air them down and get the most traction possible, regardless of track condition. Most everyone I've ever met that races for fun and has DRs wishes they had gone with slicks because they offer so much more grip. I know that I wished I would have spent the extra money to have slicks. For my Maxima, it meant the difference between a 2.0 60 foot and a 1.8 60 foot.

lol...yeah, must be. Yeah, the swap is nothing...for time...so that's not an issue...it's the other lugging around and protecting one's stuff.

Trey, I don't know how much the Nittos weigh, but I know they weighed less than the Blizzaks that were narrower on the Fox 5 rims when I weighed them...and A LOT less than the OEM 17''s.

As for Slicks wobbling...they do b/c there are no steel belts and there are not side walls like a DOT tire...I remember the first time I ran them in my Mustang I thought I broke the rear end...but You just stay pinned and nothing will go wrong...I just don't think you need em vs. the Nittos.
