Place your bets

Next Wednesday evening I'm going to head to the track to just how much influence heat has on these cars because I keep reading about people posting upper 14/low 15 second ETs. The forecast is calling for upper 80s/low 90s, sunny, humid. Factoring in the 1,000' altitude, the DA will be in the 3500'-4,000' range. In the past, my car has run 14.3-14.4@98-99mph in 300'-1,200' air with the mods being a Z-tube and spacer.

The setup on Wednesday will be Z-tube, spacer, 05+ sedan midpipe, and my fractionally heavier and wider 18" tire/rim combo. As usual, I'll have the spare removed and ~1/4 tank of fuel.

I really have no idea what the car will run judging by the slow times I've seen posted recently. I'd hope 14.6s, but who knows.

if the DA is 3500 then 14.7-15.1 is reasonable @ 94-96 mph.

14.7 @ 95 MPH, assuming you have a similar 60ft.

I think the track got faster when it was repaved back in 2002. Hooking up isn't remotely as hard now and both lanes kick out similiar ETs. It use to be that the left lane was always .2 seconds slower. Regardless, it's still a really beat down backwoods track. It will probably be gone in a couple years because the track was purchased by a developer in early 2008.

I say 14.5@96mph if the conditions are as bad as they look. That's just a hunch.

No track today. Gustav is in the Midwest and he dropped the temps from a humid sunny 91 yesterday to a rainy 59 today. It's looking like 70s for the next week.

man i really wanted to see what you ran. after my hot run (90 degress 15.1/95mph) i was curious to see if you ran the same or faster. my friends and i are going back to Gateway in Oct when its cooler (after my wedding) so im thinking all you/others said in my thread will hold true about my times coming down to mid to high 14's. keep us posted when/if you get to run in the heat.

Yeah, I want to run in at least the mid 80s. Right now they're calling for low 80s on Wednesday. However, you know as well as I that forecasting the weather in the Midwest is a crap shoot and you only what the weather will be really like until about 8 hours before. So, it might be 95 on Wednesday or 55.

I ran in the mid 80's with near 100% humidity at 1300ft and got a 14.85 with a crap launch.

In 65 degree weather with lower humidity at 850 ft I ran a 14.40.

Summer has seem to been blown out of Kansas City thanks to the two hurricanes. The weather has either been rainy or amazing (mid to upper 70s). I fear I'm not going to be able to get some runs in when the temps are above 85.
