why no sticky on how to prep for the strip?

Every car should have a diffrent way to prep for the track. I'm wondering what most people do to prep their cars before the track.

Obviously you want to lightest weight possible so taking the gas down to 1/4 or lower would be ideal. Removal of the spare tire for weight reduction. Possibly removal of seats and etc.

I went to the track once in a stock 4th gen maxima, AUTO, i pulled a 2.6 60 and 15.8-15.9 all day long. I've played with tire pressure all the time and couldn't get anything better then 2.6

Any of you track friendly people want to give out a general list to help all the first time track guys out?

I'm going to hit the track soon to see what this is going to run stock i'm thinkin 15.5's since i'm on 05X.

VDC off, SNOW off, start off at stock PSI (32) and get a couple runs in D and then MM to see what kind of baseline i can get with just mashing the pedal. Then later pending people i would try to play around with reving to 2k and then lanuching or going +/- some PSI.

There's been quite a bit posted about this in the drag racing section. It's just requires some time searching. Search "DaveB" and "launch" and you'll find all kinds of information.

Your G35X should easily be able to pull 2.2 60 foots. My 03 5AT sedan did 2.1s stock. Launching straight off idle, my stock G was pulling high 2.3 60 foots and 14.6s@98mph. Do the following and you should be in at least the 14.6 range. Car & Driver got 14.4s out of a G35X and there are a couple X owners on there that have done the same.

1) Pull up to the line, foot on brake.
2) While foot is on brake, rest right foot on gas.
3) When it's time to go, mash right foot to the floor and release the brake about 1 second later. The rpms should be in the 2400rpm range.
4) Let the car execute the 1-2 shift itself then manually shift the 2-3 and 3-4. Make sure all shifts are occurring at an indicated 6500rpms. RWD 5AT Gs have longer gears therefore they can hold 3rd through the entire run. X's have deeper gears and require the shift into 4th.

well i'm sorry for that, i've always been used to having it stickied since many people will ask these types of questions and on my old forum it was stickied along with common weight reductions list.

so you saying i should be somewhere in the area of mid 14's... my dyno butt compared to my 4th gen max, makes me think my X should bd lower 15's.

I use to have a 96 Maxima 5MT with the MEVI, JWT ECU, WSP y-pipe, 2001 Maxima muffler, and whole host of suspension and styling mods. That car went 14.3s@100mph with mid 2.1 60 foots. When I got my G35, it felt like a solid 14.7-14.8@95mph car. The Maxima had a far more raw feel. When I took my G35 to the strip, it's first pass was a 14.6@98mph followed by a 14.4@98mph. A few weeks later in cooler air it went 14.3@98mph. With a intake spacer and okay conditions, it's done 14.3 at almost 100mph. The G35 is far more refined than the Maxima was and the powerband is a lot more linear which misleads the butt dyno.

The G35 is slow when you compare it to high powered sports coupe, but any sedan that does lower 14s or better is pretty quick. Everything is relative.

In terms of track prep, I do the obvious things:

1) Remove all junk (tools, softball/volleyball gear, child seats, etc) from car includes all weather mats (about 70lbs total).
2) Remove spare (30lbs)
3) 1/4 tank or less of fuel (-120lbs vs full)
4) Air up tires to reduce drag and to induce a little spin (helps the 5AT)
5) Most importantly, I only run in conditions less than 70 degrees

When I run at the strip, my goal is to have a personal best therefore my car isn't going to necessairly reflect the way it's set up for the street.
