Drifting in the 5AT

Is it possible to drift in the 5AT by turning off the VDC and using manual mode?

Not really sure on the basics of drifting but its the first RWD car I've ever owned and wanted to try it if its doable.

Manual mode is nice when drifting though cause you can really keep it in the power band when you start the drift and it is a little easier to modulate. Since you are the one shifting it makes it much more predictable. You can DRIFT like a mad man though in the G!!!

do you have a sport package?

No LSD = no drift.

Even then, 'drifting' will destroy your LSD rather quickly.

So non sport Gs don't have an LSD? what sort of power distribution does the LSD have compared to non LSD?

^ if it's OEM, it's a VLSD. Vicous coupling limited slip differential. Probably only transfers about 20-25% of the torque either way anyway.

the VLSD IS a LSD...

VLSD is just a type of LSD. It is used on many OEM cars, because it requires little to no maintenance, and does not affect driveability.

It work by transferring torque to the wheel without traction; but it will not actually do anything until traction is lost.

A gear or clutch type LSD will have much harsher engagement, and will work BEFORE traction is lost on one of the wheels.

without a handbrake or a clutch to dump, it will be significantly harder to drift in the 5at compared to a 6mt G

drifting

you should be able to initiate drift by turning off vdc, and then flooring at the apex of the turn to lose rear wheel traction.

mashing the gas in the middle of a turn isn't really drifting, not even the pro's with 700hp cars do that

Would it be easier if you had sway bars installed with certain settings? Not sure so just wanted to know.
