What is your clutch/brake life?

I took my 03 G35 6MT Sedan in at about 30k miles. They replaced the clutch and flywheel and it cost a fortune. I got a lot of other things done, so I don't know how exactly much labor was the clutch, but I think it cost about $1500-$1800 parts and labor! The total bill was almost 3G.

I've had 2 brakes jobs (at Infiinti's expense) and one clutch on my dime. I don't drive like a maniac. Never race. Don't sidestep or riide the clutch. I have smelled that horrible burning, rotting fish smell when I have had to make a fast move in traffic and rev it up high in a low gear and slip it out a little. I've had MTs most of my life and I've never replaced a clutch under 60k miles, whether in a truck or a sports car. I asked the service rep what caused the premature wear and she gave me some cockandbull story about how they have some special dual plate, or dual metal design or some such nonsense that makes shifting smoother for the passengers. I din't understand her and thought she was talking out her butt, so I just let it go. The work had already been done.

I love the car, but if this is the kind of routine maintenance I can expect, I may have to trade it in.

I'm just wondering what kind of clutch life and brake life others are getting and what would be a good choice for a longer lasting clutch, that can work in city driving. Same for brakes. Any good aftermarket choices?

I just turned 10k miles and had to replace mine. It was already beginning to slip a bit under high loads. i took it to the dealer and they had nerved enought to say that it was a wear and tear item and that because i had my car for more than 12months (14) that it was no longer under warranty. I could have pushed it further but decided just to upgrade and thus I went with the clutchmasters setup and so far I love it.

That's just wrong.....................!

10K miles on a clutch that's B/S! The stealership
should have covered this item just like there poor
quality brake pads. My last car '92 300ZX TT the
brakes lasted 118K miles and the back pads were
only 50% worn. The clutch lasted 120K and only
replaced because rear main seal had leaked into
clutch. My next mod on my G will be aftermarket
brakes........ours suck! (even though they stop ya)

The brakes do stop good on the G, but the wear is ridiculous. 10K on a clutch! I was upset at 30K. Infiniti does a lousy job with the parts that wear out. I'm going aftermarket all the way next time. Tires too. I'm going to give up some grip so I don't have to spend $800 a year on tires.

Wow, I have 37k on my 2005 6mt coupe and the clutch feels great. I just took my front rims off to inspect the brakes and I wasnt even past the bevel in the pads yet, so I have a year or two left at least. I dont drive like a grandma, but I don't race around on the streets all the time either.

I know the pre 2005 cars have had issues, but IMHO, a lot of clutch and brake issues in any car, except for some defectives I assume, are due to driver and driving conditions. So unless you can prove there was some kind of defect, pay for your brakes and clutches, or get an 2005+ since they seem to be lasting much longer even with some spirited driving.

I have an '06, the brakes are worn out w/ less than 20K. I have not decided whether to take it to the dealer, or just replace the pads and back rotors myslef. The trailer probably sped up the process a bit. It is interesting that the stock tires are holding up better than the brakes. If the clutch wears out I will be upset. My '97 Max SE had the original clutch when I sold it at 87K and was on its first set of replacement brakes. I have never had to replace a clutch in a car. My '92 300ZX had 189K on it when I sold it.

Do you leave traction control on when you shouldnt? If so then your car is applying your brakes while you are trying to accelerate or take corners hard, that will definately shorten the life of your brakes, like I said above, on stock 2005 brakes and 37,000 miles now my brakes have a year or two of life left on them.

Woa, you tow something with your G35?????? Of course your brakes are going to wear out earlier, especially if you dont have a trailer brake. LMAO!!!!

yeah, that's why i'll probably take care of it myself - I usually turn off the vdc.

Most of my trailer towing miles are on the highway. it bothers me that my maxima didn't have brake problems And this car does.
