Clutch and Flywheel Question

OK, so I've got to replace my stock clutch after 68K. I've only had the car for 5 months, so I guess whoever had it before me might not have been the easiest on the clutch. I am looking to install a vortech SC in the near future so I figure why not upgrade the clutch instead of replacing with stock, which would be too weak for 350whp. I am thinking of going with an ACT clutch and flywheel. The clutch is sprung, organic and rated to hold 455 ft/lbs of torque, with the heavy duty pressure plate, not the extreme.

So these are my questions.

If I replace the clutch do you always have to resurface the flywheel? If so how long would it take a mechanic to do this?

If I go with the ACT prolite flywheel which is 13.2 lbs how much driveablity will I lose? I really don't want to be worrying about stalling out all the time or having to rev up to 2-3K just to get going. I mean, how much different than stock is it? BTW stock flywheel is around 23-28lbs I think.

Well I do know one thing for sure. Don't get an aluminium flywheel.

Aluminum is not one of the strongest metals, in fact it is really weak by most standards. I've heard a lot of instances of aluminium flywheels cracking or warping. If you're going to get one I would def. get a forged one, I just don't know about the weight.

Well, I got them both installed.... I love the clutch but hate that damn flywheel. Sounds ****ing horrible! It's not really hard to drive it just sounds like a dump truck on steroids in 1st and 2nd gears, almost embarassing. Gonna have it taken off next week. I don't see how anyone could live with this sound.

I went through the same and know what you mean. The gear noise is very annoying, but somehow I've gotten used to it. You can also try Redline ShockProof which might help. It's a gear oil that feels like glue and is equivalent to 75w250. The wight is supposed to help suppress the gear meshing noise a bit. I'm getting a 50/50 mix put in along w/ Redline's standard racing gear oil.
