FlyWheel Mod apply to Sedan w/Auto?

Does the flywheel mod be apply to auto Sedan? I know Flywheel mod is for Manual trans but I'm confused today and just needed some confirmation. Also, is there a simular to acheive the effect of the Flywheel mod on a auto sedan?

The AT's do NOT have a flywheel/clutch, we have a torque converter instead. So this mod does not apply to us.

Thanks for the confirmation, that's What I thought. Is there a mod that can help ATs to improve the throttle response and HP at the sametime ? A MOD that have a simular effect of the Flywheel MOD on MTs.

Ask Gurgen about his Torque converter swap. That might help ya.

Hmm. what benefit will the lightened flywheel have on a 6mt? Is it worth it?

You get the car to rev faster-less rotating mass.

What effect(s) does revving faster have in terms of performance?
More power to the wheels, faster acceleration... both?

I'm curious if the mod is really worth it.

Your engine makes its power quicker.

If you're asking this many questions, don't do the mod. The lightweight flywheels don't have dual mass dampers, so they aren't quiet and make the gearbox feel wierd at any low rpm. But, you'll have less power loss from crank to the wheels, since you have less spinning mass.

Re: FlyWheel Mod apply to Sedan w/Auto?

I just finished my T/C mod (the thrid iteration - I wll explain why later). I just want to dyno the car first before I post anything, but DO watch out for a post in the Tech forum within the next week (hopefully).

The T/C mod does NOT have the same effect as a light flywheel, but it DOES take out a lot of the inefficiency found in the fluid coupling (the T/C). Here is one fact I will concede, it seems (subject to confirmation) that my hwy mileage has increased to 24.5 mpg (and that's at 80-85 mph with a 350Z rear drive ratio of 3.5xx - which decreases gas mileage!). Before the last iteration of the T/C I was getting about 22 mpg - but yes, that was a BAD T/C. On my stock T/C I was getting about 23. So there may be the 10% improvement in gas mileage that was promised by Edge Racing. I expect a greater mileage improvement in the city.

To reduce rtaional mass, the only thing you can really do on an AT car is get the light UR crank pulley, lighter rear wheels, and lighter rear brake rotors. But doing this for the sole purpose of extracting power will be very cost-ineffective.

Is the new version T/C streetable or more race setup. Is Robert doing the install for you?

Re: FlyWheel Mod apply to Sedan w/Auto?

It is actually MORE streatable than before. I went with a near-stock 2400rpm slall (before I had 3000rpm - which was still 95% streetable - that's compared to nearly-non-streetable tilton flywheel/cluth combo - which I would rate at 25%).

I lost MASSIVE amounts of torque by going to a low stall, but I am doing this because of my upcoming TT setup, which will be making a little bit of boost at that rpm and give me just enough, controlled amount of start-up torque.

With this TC, one would NEVER be able to tell the difference in how the car rides unless you know exactly what to look for. For an N/A car with wide rear tires, you may want to go with wider tires. But I will reserve my final judgement til I do the dyno on this car.

Cool man. Streetable helps in the traffic we all deal with. Will Robert do the install or is that happening in So.Cal. Will you dyno it at the usual in SJ?

Re: FlyWheel Mod apply to Sedan w/Auto?

I drove down to performance nissan to get it installed. Robert DID install the first first, unsuccessful T/C (the core that I used was from a pre-production G35 - hence I believe the diminished performance).

Thats cool. I hope the new set up works well for you because it tends to help the rest of us.
