G35 clutch issue

I took my car into service for 2nd gear grind and some funny noises in the engine bay and sunroof.(like whislting and bearings). The service manager is telling me 2nd gear is grinding because I have a worn clutch. Is this correct or am I getting raked? I thought if a clutch is that low that it would grind all the gears. Am I wrong? Just based off experience what do you guys think I should do with the clutch. Is aftermarket worth it? What's the best price I can get a clutch kit for?

That doesn't make sense. I worn clutch will not be able to put the power through the gearbox. It should be an issue in all gears. If your clutch was not properly disengaging then you would grind gears but that has nothing to do with wear. It sounds like more of a gearbox issue to me.

It has to do with the gearbox right?(by gearbox u mean tranny right?) I grind 2nd gear about 80 percent of the time. I even can push the clutch all the way down and shift super slow and it still grinds. What should I do take it to another dealer in the area first?. If the clutch is not properly disengaging in ONE gear(2nd) what would cause that? I'm thinking the tranny..They think otherwise. They even had the nerve to tell me to replace the slave and master cylinders at my expense.(Car is just out of the 4yr 60,000 warranty)! I'm a little more car savvy than to fall for that.

That's what I get for thinking they would help me out after giving them a little service money(45000 mile). I was wrong

By the way this is my 3rd mt car and I like this one the best so I'm not bashing. Been pro nissan for 7 years now...

The problem is the 6MT in the G/Z is an absolute POS. The 2nd gear grinding issue is a design flaw in the tranny and has nothing to do with the clutch. The syncros in the Asissn-built 6MT are terribly weak and this is a very common problem.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Just from me lurking the past couple of months I came to that conclusion. I just did'nt want it to keep from buying one of my destiny cars. I figured since this was so known that I wouldn't get so much run around I guess I'll have to try another dealer. They are trying to get me to replace everything except a warrantied tranny.

At least I have till 6 years and 72000 to get this corrected.
Will a 2nd gear grind f up my new clutch when I get one?

Also isn't the clutch pedal resistance much harder on the 03-04 than it is the 05-06 models? They are telling me my clutch is low because the pedal is too hard. It's not that hard to me WTH

a clutch pedal with increasing resistance could be a sign that your clutch is wearing out.

the grinding gear issue you speak of is NOT related to the clutch, it is the transmission. don't let the dealer scam you.

the grinding gears will not affect a new clutch because it is not a problem with the clutch. the problem is internal in the tranny. do not replace the clutch, wait for the dealer to replace your tranny and you get a clutch free.

i had similar problems with 1-2 & 2-3. my tranny & clutch kit was replaced under warranty.

note: if you get a 6mt replaced under warranty, a clutch kit (except for pressure plate) comes as part of the deal in the same package as the tranny. so in effect you get a new clutch as well (including release bearing etc...). some dealers may not tell you this and make you pay for the clutch.

Yeah that's pretty much what my car is doing.
Well they want me to buy a clutch first before they reverify the tranny. Needless to say I'm not doing that. I guess I'll schedule a second opinion with another dealer.

The resistance has always felt the same to me I just got the car in august w/41xxx now has 45500 soooo I guess maybe it could be low....but I doubt it

I have the G35 Maint. Manual and this is what it says in the Troubleshooting Chart.

Manual Transmission>Symptoms>Noise>

1-Oil (Low)
2-Oil (Wrong Oil)
3-Gear (Worn or Damaged)
4-Bearing (Worn or Damaged)

Clutch>Symptoms>Noise>

1-Release Bearing {AKA Throwout Bearing}(Worn, Dirty, Damaged)

I don't know if that is documented here on the forum, but it seems that way from the half dozen or so '03 and '04 models I drove and then compared with an '06. The '06 was noticeably lighter than the '03-'04 models.

Hotnikks: good idea to get a second opinion. it's a pain to have to run around to other dealers, but there is quite a bit if $$$ on the line. eventually you'll find a somewhat honest dealer who'll rectify the problem. remember, the dealer gets paid by Infiniti to perform the warranty work. with this in mind i don't know why some places are so resistant to do warranty work.

another note: when you get your new tranny and clutch, they are updated units. i believe Nissan is on revision G or H of the 6mt, much more recent than our stock units.

Thanks for all the responses guys I'm getting a second opinion. I just have to figure out where...Anybody familiar with north nj. I took it to ramsey. Maybe somebody can help me out with a recommmendation as I know dealers are hit or miss...

P.S get this I have a crazy sound buzzing from under the car when cold.( I think it's from the trans). The head foreman drove in the car and NO ONE knew what the noise was . They even wrote it in my record...
