parking the car in gear

just wondering if you guys have heard anything about it being bad for the car in anyway to leave it in 1st or reverse when parking? I usually always leave it in first along with the e-brake or reverse if I have backed into a spot.

Just heard today from a friend that this could be bad, no explanation though. Any harm in doing this?

Hmm, I've never heard any issues with parking while in gear. I used to ALWAYS park in gear until I remembered I live in Florida and hills/inclines are pretty much non existent in my area.

might be bad if you park on an incline without using the ebrake cuz it could hurt your tranny?

Hmmm I was always told to leave it parked in a low gear when on any incline just in case the ebrake failed. I dunno it's just what I've been told.

I don't see how leaving the car in gear would hurt that tranny a bit. Some people just don't know what they are talking about (friends )

I always leave my car in 1st gear + hand brake (obviously). If my hand brake fails for what ever reason, I won't see my car down the hill thanks to the second brake (gearing ).

Always park in a gear that i was in. Usually first/second/reverse. I rarely use the handbrake unless im on a steep hill.

I dont see the point. Besides even with street driving ur brakes are hot so why risk warping the rotors?

I don't know what he's talking about. I don't think he really knew either which is why there was no explanation.

I've always done it so, not gonna worry about it.

1+.

The handbrake is the primary choice, with gearing being the secondary brake.
