LEVEL 10

I have an 04 g35c 5AT with 8,000 miles on it. Im about to make an appointmenat with Level 10 to do up the tranny. The installation will include a valve body and torque converter. does any1 have any opinions on this upgrade. I plan on adding a Vortech supercharger so this upgrade is necessary, however, that is in the future. Sooo is any1 aware of the benefits/setbacks of the tranny upgrade. Do it or not to do it...that is the question!!!

Re: LEVEL 10

From the experiences I've read about the upgrade definitely helps but IMO isn't something that is bang for your buck. If money is no object then by all means go for it. But for FI purposes you would definitely want to do this mod. The higher stall speed torque converter will be able to put more power down to the wheels and will be able to handle the extra torque generated by the FI. The valve body upgrade should be able to cut the shifting time down quite a bit. For the 3rd Gen Eclipses I remember it cut the shift times from .8 secs down to .2 secs or something like that. Here's an excerpt from a 3rd Gen Eclipse owner who did the Level 10 mod.

"Hello everyone,

I just wanted to weigh in on this issue. I've had the torque converter and valve body upgrade (shift kit) done on my car as well. At this point, I think Ruben (RADmitsu), is getting better results on his car than mine, because he removed his Unorthodox pulley.
I had the service performed at Level 10. The cost I was quoted for the TQ was $498 and the Valve body was quoted at $698. Labor is dependent on who pulls the tranny for you. If another shop does the work, you'll probably have to consider shipping charges as well. There are a few other minor charges you will have to consider like Tranny fluid replacement.

In regards to the differences after the mod, the shifting is much smoother, especially at higher rpms (there's no lag and the tranny does not lose as much torque during the shift). I'm not sure how much more hp goes to the wheels, but I don't think it's more than 10 -- maybe 15 at the max. It may be more depending on the drain of the UR pulley. However, your torque converter will be able to handle a lot more HP. Tires will squeal in first, but mine are stock and they aren't the greatest for traction.
Overall I feel this mod is well worth it, especially if you're considering FI. Level 10 is a class act."

Re: LEVEL 10

When i talked to the manager at level 10 he said that the coupe shifts at 1.8 seconds and with the upgrade it will shift at 1.2. Furhtermore, the upgrade supposedly puts 25 ponies to the wheels. It sounds like a great upgrade especially if im gonna go FI. i am just wondering if this will cause any unexpected problems to any other parts of the car and if it will hurt/extend engine life. If anyone has upgraded their tranny, please post your comments.

Re: LEVEL 10

Don't forget to add a bigger tranny cooler. The increase heat from the higher stall torque converter will not be completely offset by the valve body pressure mod. And before you get the FI installed, you MUST absolutely MUST have a bigger or additional tranny cooler installed

I have seen as low as 500.00 advertised for the vb upgrade at http://www.maximumtuning.net/ these guys have a long history with maxima/altima vehicles and have good experience with infinti and other imports as well.

max tuning is also a good resource for questions on t/c and full tranny rebuild questions. I don't think they do the rebuilds for infinti's but they have the experience if you can talk them into it. Jeff is the deity there.
