Re: Transmission fluid level
theskipps,
I check mine hot with the engine running in "P". The level should be in the cross-hatched pattern (highlighted in red).
If you check it cold, be sure to cycle between "R" and "D" a couple of times with the engine running first. Then, with the AT in "P", the level should be in between the two notches where the word "HOT" is located.

Re: Transmission fluid level
I don't have a A/T G35, but I know a couple AT cars I've driven have a HOT and COLD reading on the dip stick. You use the COLD reading when the tranny is cold (driven a couple miles, mild traffic, etc.). You use the HOT reading when the tranny is warm or hot (lots of stop and go, 10 miles or more, etc.). The hot and cold reading could be on either side of the dip stick, but sometimes they point out the HOT reading is higher then the COLD reading.

Re: Transmission fluid level
Gord,
The newer service manuals tell all.
Hot (65C or 149F) is read on the side that says HOT. The level shoild be in the cross-hatched area.
Cold (30-50C or 86 to 122F) is read from the backside of the "oil level gauge" opposite the word HOT. Normal level is between the two notches.
We're not alone in our confusion. I believe the newer (non-gray market) oil level gauges have the word HOT above the cross-hatched area.

Thanks. That sort of makes sense, if they have COLD stamped on the other side with the cross hatched area between the notches. If not, then....well, we didn't design these things, did we?
