AUTOMATIC with 3.5 DIFF WORTH IT????

Ok I got an automatic G35 Coupe. I have the oportunity to pick up a 350Z open diff 3.5 (from a manual 350Z 2007 with 22K) for $240 with axle stubs and sensors.....

Good Deal or should I wait for a VSLD? Opinions please.... THX. Future holds twins or vortech.....

wait for a 3.3 or 3.5 VLSD (since youll be going FI) or get an aftermarket LSD, no need to switch from 3.3 open to 3.5 open waste of money IMO

2007 350Z's all have VLSD. Only years you could get Open diff on the 350Z was 2003 and possibly 2004.

rear diff

Ok so do you guys recommend a VSLD 3.5 gears for an auto? Somewhat of a difference in performance????

Also another question what about the diff from a G37 or 2007+ G35 sedan sport? Do they have the same rear end as ours and I think they have oem 3.7 gears if I am not mistaken??? Just a thought to find one crashed at the salvage yard.....

Yes, VLSD is worth it and 3.5 will give you slightly better acceleration.

I'm not sure if the HR motor has the same differential as ours...I haven't researched or read about that anywhere.

So, the VLSD pumpkin from a 05+ 350z will be a direct swap for a G? Is there any specific trim or year from which I can get a 3.5 VLSD? Thanks

Yes. Anything 04+ will have VLSD if its a 350Z. 2003 Enthusiast Z's have VLSD.

LSD is a big upgrade on the turns. 3.5 FD gears will give slightly better acceleration vs. slightly lower gas mileage.

Not entirely true.. I know 2 people with 06 rev up base model Z's that have no LSD or VDC..

I don't think any base model Z has LSD

If you plan on gong FI keep the 3.3 because of the longer gears. Alot of 6mt guys switch to the 3.3. If not I would wait for one with a VSLD if possible.

Ask on my350z in the FI section if someone local wants to do a swap with you.

If you plan on staying N/A for awhile get the 3.7 which is perfect for 5AT.

I have the 3.5FD in my G and drove OCG35's G with the 3.7 and his car was definately faster we had about the same hp and tq at the time. (he has more now)

The only thing I had on him was the faster shifts due to my VB.

Take the cube root of the ratio difference say 7% or 12% thats a 1.9% or 2.3% increase in acceleration assumming you correct the software in TCU.

Depending on new gear ratio it acts like the engine is putting out 20-29 lb/ft more torque.

the trouble with getting a 3.7 on a 5at is that you first have to get the vlsd from the 3.5 right? since the 3.7 won't come with it and the 3.3 5at won't fit it.

that's why for now, i found a guy that will trade with me for my 3.3 lsd for his 3.5 vlsd. then i can use the 3.5 for a while before doing the upgrade to 3.7

so I want to ask this question..one of my buddies who is Fully Built with a Greddy Twin Turbo says this to me.....

if anyone has an auto with vlsd, and wants to trade for my 3.5 vlsd let me know....I have asked if its just a direct swap into mine..im N/A right now and probably will be for alittle while...also I have an 04 Coupe and I also have the GTM VB Upgrade in my car....I dont beleive there will be a price he just wants to swap direct and eachother cover the cost of the install...should I do it??

The VLSD from the 2008 doesn't work with the 2003-2006 models?
