Rear diff oil for a 5AT

I am at 24k on my car and planning on chnaging the rear diff oil; in reading the DIY thread someone said to use ATF in the 5AT for the rear diff; I understand there are 2 different fluids to use for the tranny but is there any difference in the rear diff fluids for a MT/AT?

I was planning on using the Amsoil 75w-90, 2 qts...sound like a good plan?

Do NOT use ATF in the diff, use the Amsoil gear oil and yes you'll need about 1.5 qts, and a pump will help.

Yup, or you can order one from the Amsoil site when you order your diff oil (if that's where you intend to get it). Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

Y'mean a diff oil change? I think bythabay has done one. Wasn't sure if maybe you meant the Transgo kit.

i just changed mine with valvoline full synth 75w-90 and the bottles had tips on the end you can just squeeze into the diff w/o a pump. since it takes like 1.5qts you can get all of the fluid you need by squeezing

Thanks for the info about the Valv...is it as good as Amsoil?

I did receive the shift kit and am debating on doing it myself or sending the VB to the Houston guys that are offering to do the install for a price. I got the fluid at my local Nissan dealer for $8 a qt.

I just changed my diff oil. Car has 81k and I don't think it had ever been done. It was pretty nasty stuff in there. I used Lucas 80w-90. You can use any brand as long as it's API GL5. The owners manual says to use 80w-90 gear oil. Although you might be able to use a different weight depending on where you live. I am in Kansas so it goes anywhere from -10 to 110 here so I need something for all types of weather. When I drained mine I got about 1.5 quarts out of it and put that much back in. I got a pump at wal-mart for $10. I did the whole job myself in about 15 mins plus the time to jack up the car. You will need a 10MM hex bolt to get the plugs out. make sure to break the top one loose first. you dont want to take the bottom one out and then find the top is seized or something.. lol.. i recommend watching bythebay's DIY video on here first if you havent done it before. it made it easy for me.

The $8 a qt was for the ATF I will need when I do the Transgo shift kit. not the rear diff fluid. The Valv was $17 a qt for the rear diff, right?

Good luck with your diff fluid change. Shouldn't take you more than 15 mins from drain to fill...if you have lift.

SEND US YOUR VB!
