Will I run into any problems if I mix fluids? I was thinking doing the "Ranger" protocol with my clutch fluid, so instead of draining the whole system, just siphoning out the reservoir, filling it, drive for a week, and repeat. I should have the standard DOT3 in there now, but I have DOT3/4 I was going to put in. I assume since it's compatible with all DOT3 systems it shouldn't be a problem, is that right?
should be no problem.
A short cut to the "ranger" method is to siphoning the reservoir, filling it, pump the clutch 25-30 times & re-do.
& repeat until the fluid clears up

bringing back an older post, can i mix in prestone dot 5 brake fluid with the standard stuff? And is this the best stuff you reccomend, is it worth the extra cost to go to dot 5 or should i just stick with dot 4?
Also, should I be following the ranger protocol on the brake fluid at all? I was thinking about slipping some dot 5 in there as well, right now its nice and clean because it only has 3000 KM since its complete brake overhaul, but i'm wondering if I can or should be keeping this stuff clean through the ranger protocol?

DOT 5 is a different chemistry than DOT 3&4 and when mixed will create sludge and damage your system. DOT 5 is also not good for performance cars. DOT 5.1 is compatible with DOT 3&4, but I would just go with DOT 4 (sometimes labeled as DOT 3/4). Most of the crap in the brake and clutch lines will be at the bottom of the line, why not just properly bleed the brakes and clutch? Try the clutch first, it is easy.Originally Posted by danielj
