Ring/Pinion Question

I've read/heard that the ring and pinion from the open differentials are not the same as the ring/pinion from the VLSD differentials. Is this true?

3.3 ring gear is thicker... so most vlsd wont fit (since they are designed for thinner 3.5, 3.7, 3.9. 4.0)... most 3.3 are open diff

other than that, not sure....

are all 3.3 rings the same? or will they not fit with the stock VLSD?

apparently the Canadian models (AT 3.3) have vlsd (from what I've read here)... so I guess if you get the right diff it will work.

But in general, the US models you will need MT diff/vlsd for 3.5 and shorter.

*** Quaife used to sell a spacer to address this... but that was years ago and you wont find it new.

Why would they make them different sizes... haha

I'm trying to sell my differential (3.3) and found someone looking for gears but if they won't work for him I wouldn't try to sell to him.

Automatics with every option have 3.3 with VLSD. I have one. Don't know if the R&P is different though.

3.3 gears... Huum. They would look nice with some boost. I still don't know what gears I have.
