Clutch Delay Spring Removal
HOLY BATMAN THREAD BUMP!!!
I just did this mod today and everything went through pretty smooth. Took my time doing it so it took about 1 hour time. The only issue I had was there was some play in the pedal and I adjusted the cruise sensor just a slight bit to put pressure on the pedal. I tried to adjust the silver rod but had a hard time doing it and the weather started to get a little wet. The pedal is perfect just a little bit higher than the brake pedal and i feel no vibrations or clutch feel on it when it is disengaged
.
I took it for a test drive and the car feels a lot better to me and 1st gear is much smoother on take off. The reason is I am better able to tell right when it is engaging and get a smoother return on pedal. Before all the pedal feel was being buffered by the spring and adsorb all sense of clutch engagement. Now it reminds me more of the clutch in other vehicles i had driven. Much easier and not as jerky since i have more control.
This is a FREE mod and worth your time. I would try it out and see what you think but try it for 1 week. I had my initial remorse for doing it but after driving around town and having much smoother shifts along with easier time running through the gears. I am easily able to downshift, rev match and release the clutch extremely smoothly and take off like a BAT OF H33L.

ok...
so how the F do you unclip the sensors?!? i mean i see the little brown tab and where it clips into the black housing...but it seems like there is another one on the other side of the sensor and it is inaccessible!
i'm stabbing them with a screwdriver to get them to go in, but i can't get at the other side. do the little blue clips come out somehow?
sorry, i'm apparently retread...

Just completed this mod. Wow! Big difference. I don't look like a total noob while driving and I can control engagement a ton better. The pedal is stiffer, but the payoff in driveability is worth it.
You'll need to take the entire pedal assembly out of the car. 30min job total.
Here's the tools you'll need:
12mm deep socket
extension (I used a 6 inch)
Small flathead screwdriver
14mm wrench (for adjusting the top switch to keep the pedal at a proper height)
Make sure you double check your work when you put it back in! It's an important thing to have working correctly.

there are e/c clips around the pins that hold the spring in. i pryed them off with a small screwdriver. hold a rag over them so they don't go shooting across the garage.
just be careful moving the clutch pedal with the spring still under tension, it will really snap around.

do I need to press the clutch in to get the spring out? does the whole assembly actually come out, or does it just sort of hang there?? What do I need to adjust when Im finished, the rod or the nut?? And what tools will I need for the adjustment?

I just finished doing my spring removal and I must say this mod is excellent. The clutch feels much smoother now. The clutch is SLIGHTLY harder to press down, but it feels like the engagement point at the top is much softer. Its seems like the clutch is definitely a little more forgiving. The clutch did have a little play at the top so I just turned that sensor and moved it up a little bit closer to the clutch stop. Wow I'm a total noob and I could do this mod. Only took me like 45mins. hardest part is definitely maneuvering around in that little hole. Overall definitely worth it. Thanks guys for making this as easy as possible for me!!
You need to loosen a nut in order for that rod to turn. I cant get to the nut with a regular wrench. I need something smaller. Do you know the exact size of the nut so I can get the right tool? Hawk is your engagement point right at the top of the pedal?? Once I let off my clutch after shifting it's basically all the way fully released. Im afraid that my clutch isnt engaging fully. But the pedal does have play so I'm pretty sure it should be fine. I'm going to try and move the pedal up a little bit by adjusting that rod, maybe that will help a little bit
i looked at the pictures, i don't see a nut. i just see where the rod screws thru the U bracket that has the pin in it. but yeah, your pedal should sit just a little higher than your brake pedal. at least mine does.
EDIT. i think i see it in the second pic. i would say it's a 10mm. but that's a total guess. just get an open ended/box end wrench set from Lowes/Home Depot for cheap. all their tools are lifetime warranty.

I have a small open ended wrench but it doesnt fit back there. I guess I gotta go get one that's even smaller. My clutch pedal does sit slightly higher than my brake right now, but like I said the engagement point is right at the top of the clutch. When I let it out after shifting, the pedal is already fully out.
