valve cover/gasket

My sedan is leaking oil from the passenger's side valve cover. I asked a guy I know who is a mechanic if he had run into this before. He said yes and that you have to replace the whole valve cover because its leaking around the spark plug hole and the seal is integrated into the valve cover. Anyone done this before? Is this always the problem/solution? I will do the work myself as I do 99% of the time. I'm not scared of doing it just curious what others have run into on this particular job. Also, anyone know the cost involved? I haven't started pricing stuff, yet.
