Raj.. Good find, are any of the digits or stencil on the case a code for the gear ratio? We've both been figuring this out and I have not seen an answer on the forum.

I've an 3.3 VLSD in the 03 AT 5 speed sport sedan. At 80 MPH 5th gear tachs at 3000 rpm. Can you do a favor, When you get your 3.5 out on the road please confirm your 80 MPH tach reading. Thanks

Thanks. As far as i know the 3.5 vlsd diff have "GD" stamped on them while the open diffs have "GC" or "GB" stamped.

Yes, i will def let you know, once i get it installed.

I agree with Raj..the stencil GA, GD, GB is VLSD in my research the past week.
GC is open differential; until we hear more from someone else shouting out with the real Infiniti answer.

My 2003 3.3 VLSD is stenciled GA. Assembled Sept 2002.
I'm thinking G is the car model on the assembly line, A or what ever letter is the could unlikely be "assembly line" for that run of cars. Or as it appears most likely could code to the limit slip variant.

Also, when I pop the hood and read the "model number" "A" is the 13th digit on the nameplate body riveted over the passenger side strut position.
That I am certain (for some reason) it codes to the "GA" stencil marking on my differential case.

Whoo, really can not wrap my head around the code that is cast on the pumpkin case except the 1st digit of the top series represents the year part was made. The next couple may be month or day but these are only my guess.

That leaves the last digits in the cast series or AGAIN more likely the stencil.

I've based this research on my spending time examining the private market photos of the pumpkin sellers here over the years.

The lower series of digits is common across many set-up both open and VLSD.

Raj..my 3.3 FD turns @ 3000 rpm/80 mph. Given stock tachometer resolution.
That would place 3.54 FD turning 3218 rpm
and 3.7 FD turning 3363 rpm

hmm thats weird, i asked another person what their tach reading was at 80mph and they also said 3000 with the 3.5fd. My car is tuned, i dont know if that changes things.

tire size will always play a part. There is a thread dedicated to FD and 80 MPH which goes over the speeds/gears

3.3 on a 5AT = ~2900-3000
my 5AT on 3.3 was 2875 rpms at 80

3.5 on a 5AT = ~3150-3250
my car is now around 3200 rpm at 80
