Sounds like a trip to the dealer to me. If the "immobilizer" has been activated, the only way to deactivate it is having the original key or having a dealer make you a new one and programing it to the car.

Edit: I didn't see that it's an 2001, it did not use the "chip" key, my 2005 doesn't either. But I still think you will need to have the dealer straighten it out for you.

your 2005 doesnt? my 2003 G35 has the transponder in the key. and you might just need a new ignition. The transponder in the key has to be within either 4-7in(cant remember which one) of the ignition. then when the ignition verifies that its the correct key. The ignition transmits an RF signal thats verified by the transponder in the key(or maybe the transponder transmits, i forget). but after the signal(the code) is verified, then the verification is sent to the ECU which allows the engine to be turned on. sooo if it does have a transponder in the key then it may have been activated, but if it had been de-activated then i dont see how the ECU would let the engine start in the first place(before your problem). and they have been using transponders for a while now, i dont see why a 2001 model car would'nt have one. Especially since they created this car as a sport-luxury to compete with BMW's 3 series. Obviously the first 350gt and 300gt came out before the US even saw a G, but considering Japan is known for leading the way in technology, no transponder key in a 2000+ model car should even be an option for Nissan imo

just my $.02
