4.08 final drive to 5AT

not if you bump up the rev limiter... 7200-7500 rev limit and you can make it in 3rd (maxing out each gear). Possibly even 7K (I'm not sure, I've always had 7500 with 3.7FD)
anyone tracking their car should have tuned ECU - bumping the rev limit is a given.
Derek, what's your rev limit set at?

Thanks fro the response, further advice needed
DsSkyline
How do I view a list of the mods to your G ?
Could you give me a list of mods in preferential order I can have done to make a solid reliable reduction in 1/4 mile times ?
Many thanks for any help, nobody in the UK has any useful advice on these cars

Transgo shift kit
3.7 gears
In that order. Tune is needed to make sure you are getting the max out of your car before the gears and shift kit.
My mods
Ported intake
PPE longtube headers
JWT S1 cams
Custom exhaust
Transgo shift kit
Edge racing TC
Revup air box
1pc AL driveshaft
Uprev tune 298hp/260tq (dynadynamics dyno)
I've ran my PB of 13.14 without the cams, longtube headers, new exhaust and AL DS with 250hp, but in -800 DA which helps alot. My car was running @ 104% that day along with everyone else!!
Don't know what my new setup will do in cooler weather so far the best in 60* weather is 13.2 I did that in May.

Just get the OEM diff that already has the gearing. Some G37's and later model G35 sedans came with the 3.7. If the diff comes off of a manual then it will be a direct swap.

Since you are in the UK just use my old zipcode 07111 that will give all the ones available in NJ and NY.
If you find one call the place up and see if they can ship it to you. I got mine for $350 shipped with 50k miles.
The 6mt diff is a direct swap while the 5AT diff you need to swap the driveshaft flange from your diff to the new one.

You meant a 5AT 350Z diff yeh ?
I am enthused by your 1/4 mile times I went to Santa Pd last year and couldn't get below 15! to be honest not many (supras, evos etc) got below 13 or even 14 for that matter.
p.s. Thanks for all the help nobody has a clue in the UK

Manual diffs from those yrs G sedan are a direct swap and are hard to find. The 5at you have to change out the driveshaft flange.
There is a thread showing the difference.
My times have alot to do with experience and weather. I have over 500 passes in my car and my fastest times are in 40* weather in -DA (below sealevel)

I would still go 3.7 easier to do and cheaper.

4.08 gears vs. 3.9 gears
I am aware that this is an older thread but I am looking for some more direction & help in choosing my next modification path. I also have an account with the username Bradass. I have really been wanting to increase my final drive from 3.54. The gears came in my 350z manual (locking) carrier with the OEM VLSD. I am taking a break from my nitrous kit until next Summer and I would like to boost my acceleration while N/A. I have my Redline flashed to 7200 RPM but I do not think going up to the 3.69 gears will give me what I am looking for. I really just want to be faster stoplight to stoplight and in normal driving situations & RPM range (also 1/8 of a mile). I so DD my car and have heard that the performance gains below about 80 MPH or so are breathtaking. I would also add a 1/2" plenum spacer to enhance my top end & I already have ported cylinder heads on my DE. Any advice is really appreciated & I know 3.69 gears are best for a 5at, but I would rather be much faster under 80 MPH where I use the car most rather than than over it. Thanks.
