05 G35x - Does the AWD not work in reverse, or is my system messed up?

We just got a bunch of snow the other day, and I had a hell of a time dislodging my vehicle from its icy tomb this morning. I had to reverse out of the spot, and according to my girlfriend, only one wheel was spinning (drivers rear). The only light that came on was the flashing AWD light after we'd been trying to unstick it for a couple minutes. I let the car chill out a minute and that went off (IIRC, normal behavior). I'm only running all-seaons, so I'm not expecting tractor-like winter performance, but it seems odd that the thing would only spin one wheel, especially since the other rear tire had decent contact.
I just replaced the transfer case juice a couple weeks ago, for what it's worth.

There is a button near your left knee when sitting in the drivers seat called "VDC off." Hitting ths button lets the wheels each spin independent of any other.
Only use it in this kind of weather to get out of sketchy areas, VDC is the traction control that will save your ***

Try the snow button that locks it in awd.Unless you have alimited slip rear only one tire will spin.vdc or snow should get you free. I run all season hankook ventus v2 concept tires l had a good time in 6inches of snow yesterday. With awd its best to run all season otherwise you have to get four snow tires.lve had no problem running all season tires. Just as good as my 4x4 truck in snow.
