Replaced clutch, lost pedal pressure

First timer here.

I replaced the clutch on a friend's 07 G with a Z1 kit. I did not crack open the slave, just unbolted it and laid it out of the way.

The problem I'm having is that when the pedal is first pushed in, it will snap/pop into this first position (if you will) with little effort, with what appears to be with help from the assist spring. Then it can be pushed further the floor as if you were to start the car. Then you take your foot off the pedal and it comes back to this same first position, then you have to manually pull the pedal back up to get it out of that position. I can feel tension and somewhat see that spring helping the pedal snap into and out of that position. The pedal doesn't build up pressure.

Now, the reservoir fluid was dirty and low, but not low enough to introduce air into the line. I then replaced the stock line with the SS one that came with the kit, flushed the old fluid, then new fluid, bled the line for about 30 minutes, and the pedal is still behaving the same way. There is a slight improvement where the pedal will build pressure after about 20-30 pumps but still cant get it into gear. I watched the slave rod gradually move further and further out with these 30 pumps. I see no bubbles/air in the clear hose on the bleeder valve. Got a ton of foam with the first few bleeding rounds.

The owner states that the pedal has never behaved this way. He was able to get it into gear once and drive for a few miles then lost pedal pressure, and was able to limp home. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Thanks for the link, but I'm not seeing where it addresses my concern on why the pedal is behaving the way it is now.
