Exclamation Help!! Tranny disengaged!!

Luckily this happened near home.

I was driving then all of the sudden it felt like I lost power. I switched to manumatic and saw that I was in second. Tried up shifting dashboard indicator reads 3 but I'm just limping along. Turned the car around and limped home. The engine runs fine but when I shift into D or R it's like I'm in N. Manumatic is out too. Any ideas?

if you are still under warranty, call infiniti roadside service 18006626200 with your VIN #. they'll tow to a dealer and they should fix the problem...

this happened to me once....i was driving aggressively and shifted from 2-3 in manumatic except it wouldnt shift up to 3...so i was stuck in 2. i tried putting into N then back to MM mode....still nothing...then I tried D...back to MM mode...STILL nothing. Had to pull over, stop completely, shut car off/back on and hasnt happened since (thank god...)

basically i would accelerate and RPMs would go up...but the car wouldnt get into 3rd and I would hit limiter if I kept accelerating..

It's really weird. I let the car sit for a while then turnit on and D and R are back for a couple of minutes then back to nothing. Eventhough I've modded my car (Vortech, UTEC, etc...) Ithink I'm gonna have to get it back to the dealer. sounds like something electronic?

We had the same symptoms when our clutchpacks started to fail. You might want to take your Vortech off before taking it to the dealer.
Just my 2 cents.

so the D/R are not showing up in the display within the speedo?? i hope for your sake you have a good dealership who wont try and blame ur vortech on the problem...hmm so u get stuck in second...dayumn...tranny syncros?? tranny doesnt seem to be catching/shifting DEF take it to the dealer...w/ FI they recommend a valve body and torque converter upgrade on the AT tranny. did you have any of these upgraded, either the VB or TC?

I do see the shift indicators on the dash but it's like I'm in neutral. Funny a friend of mine was just suggesting a valve body upgrade.

Man I hope my dealer doesn't screw me. They haven't in the past. (fingers crossed).

Was that covered under warranty and did you have any mods?

Highly unlikely they will cover the AT with a SC. Like he said, probably worth the few hundred to take it off before asking for a new tranny from the dealer.

Ok,
Brought the car to infiniti and you can expect the response. The tranny is dead. "Well you've got aftermarket electronic parts , yadayadyda....

Called AAM and something similar happened to a 350z AT. Why wasn't I warned? May need valve body uprgrade plus TC up grade and a new/rebuild tranny.

Pissed

The car is not in the US, where it was purchased so the warranty didn't apply.
Look for my thread on my350z in FI section. The one that shows Level 10 work. Should be a while back. Note the pictures of the tranny and especially the clutchpacks when we pulled it apart. About 100 miles after this sort of thing started happening. Greddy TT@12Psi.

Sorry to hear that. I must say though, there are plenty of warnings on this and some other forums. I though I'd be the biggest of them all, since I posted so much and so many pictures.

Bottom line - you need 3 essential things to be able to run up to ~360-380wtq on auto trany safely.

- Valve Body upgrade
- Tranny cooler
- Raised rev-limiter

The AT is speced at a maximum of 340 lb/ft of torque IN GEAR per JATCO specs assuming used with TCU that provides ECU with ignition timing advance cut before and during shift with a 0.7 second after shift ramp up back to nominal advance.

Actually the torque at WOT shift rpm cannot exceed 275 lb/ft [340HP converted to torque at 6500] REDUCED BY 40% by shut down of ignition advance.
