i got some oxy clean and sparkling water (for lack of club soda). the results are pretty good, not as promising as the guy described it, but pretty good. the filter is very clean, drying now.

Well I tired this method on my AFE type 2 filter on my truck. I am disappointed with the results. I got better results cleaning my filter the way I always do.

Use the kits cleaning solution and let sit for a hour (I use lots)

Rinse using cold water from the inside out.

Fill sink with dish soap and warm water and roll filter in soapy solution. (how many times you have to refill the sink with the soapy solution depends on how much oil and dirt is left in the filter after the cleaning solution step)

Gently wash the outside of filter with paint brush to remove larger pieces of material from outside of filter. (this may take some time if the larger pieces have been in there for awhile)

Rinse filter from the inside until all traces of soap are removed

Let stand until completely dry.

Re-oil filter as per manufacturers instructions.

^^^ that's about what i had to do. no dish soap, but the rest is about the same. the filter was dry by last night, and i coated it with one layer of blue JWT refill oil, and then touched up about an hour later. it's all nice blue and dry today, slightly oily. will reinstall after lunch.

all right, drove the car today a bit, i guess i managed to not mess anything up - she drives nicely with the newly cleaned filter. i did have to reset the ECU and do the idle volume relearning procedure - otherwise she was idling too low and was misbehaving otherwise. but after i did that and drove her for a bout 5 minutes, she idles right at 650, and sounds perfect. there is that pop-charger sound again - i didn't hear it lately, with the dirty filter.

K&N, etc. are designed to be cleaned and reoiled only 30-50K miles!
I would certainly get the AEM filter and not ever have to be concerned about oiling the filter.
That's has to be better than having doubts about how well they are oiled or take the risk of over-oiling them.

I'VE BEEN USING K&N SINCE 1982ish WHEN THEY USE TO GIVE U PILLOWS OF OIL TO SQUEEZE ACCROSS THE PLEATS....BEEN CLEANING THE SAME ALSO...

pull out filter.. spray dirty side with 50.50 simple green and hot water ..let soak for about 5-10 min.. wash out with as hot of water as u can stand..respray with simple green again..wait another 5-10 min..wash out again and shake out most water... it should be real clean but u can pick out any large debris left that did not wash out...install in car run for 2-5 min..it will dry ,dont worry about the small amount of water it wont hurt anything.. pull out and lightly spray filter with K&N oil..let sit and spray whare u missed..remember not to much oil only a light coat..and ur done untill next time

remember to not put too much oil on it, once it gets on your maf sensor you'll have to clean that out in addition to it being on the inside of your intake tube and throttle body.

Just put it in the top rack of your dishwasher, dirt side down.
