DIY: 2003 transsmission/clutch kit install

This is a new thread for the removal and installation of the 2003 manual transaxle/clutch. This will be preformed on my 2003 G35 6MT. Currently on the car I have 102100 miles and my tranny/clutch is slipping bad. I will perform a complete transmission swap along with a upgraded clutch kit and flywheel. This process will take about two weeks for the parts to arrive and about 2-3 days install with t he right guidance.

I will just like to share my experience with all of your guys that way if anyone of you guys come across this problem this would help out in the process.

Feel free to pm me any questions or comments you have if you plan on subscribing this this thread.

Just got back from the store, had to pick up a few more bottles of RP. I also brought a power built oil pump so I can transfer the fluids into both the tranny and diff. I also picked up some Mobil 1 synthetic Grease (wheel bearing grease) the instructions call for lithium-base but I checked with a reliable shop and this should work. I also got some blue lock tight.

OK I will be going over a list of instructions but will include the actual pics of the work being done later. Then add them to the instructions that way you would get an over all picture of what it looks like. I don’t have a scanner on hand so please bare with me on the pics that will be posted at a later date. I will begin work two weeks from today. So lets begin…

Fig. 30 removing and Installing Transmission Assembly

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
2. Remove catalytic converter stay mounting nuts and bolts (4 bolts), and then remove catalytic converter brackets.
Refer to Pic (!)
Note: you may have to use PB plaster on the bolts depending on how rusted they are. Best to spray while car is hot to let the PB sock in the heated metal.

Fig. 31 Locating Catalytic Converter Stay Mounting Nuts And Bolts

3. Remove nut connecting catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold, and then remove catalytic converter and exhaust front tube as one unit.
Note: these nuts and bolts are very hard to get access to cause they are way up top near your headers, so you may need to use a very long extension to brake the top nuts. Also use PB blaster on these nuts while hot.
4. Remove propeller shaft. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION GUIDE. (add in)
5. Remove control rod mounting bolts and then separate shift lever assembly from the control rod assembly.
Note: will provide pics later.

6. Using a suitable tool, release claws and separate console boot from center console. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (add in)
Refer to Pic(!)

Refer to Pic(!)
8. Separate control lever boot from guide plate. (three bolts)

10. Remove clutch operating cylinder mounting bolts and then separate heat insulator and clutch operating cylinder from the transmission case.
Refer to Pic(!)

12. Remove guide plate mounting bolts and then separate shift lever assembly from the shift lever housing. (4 bolts).

Fig 36. Locating Crankshaft Position Sensor (POS)

13. Remove crankshaft position sensor (POS).
Refer to Pic(!)

CAUTION: Do not subject it to impact by dropping or hitting.
Do not disassemble.
Do not allow iron dust, etc., to get on the sensor’s front edge magnetic area.
Do not place in an area affected by magnetism.

14. Disconnect neutral position switch and back -up lamp switch.
15. Separate heated oxygen sensor 2 wire harness, crankshaft position sensor (POS) wire harness, back-up lamp switch wire harness and PNP switch wire harness from the transmission.
Refer to Pic(!)
16. Remove starter motor. REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION.
17. Set transmission jack to the transmission.

CAUTION: When setting transmission jack, be careful so that it does not contact with the switch.

18. Remove rear engine mounting member. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION. (add in)
19. Remove engine and transmission mounting bolts with power tool.
Refer to Pic(!)
20. Remove transmission from the vehicle.

Hey if anyone needs anything i know of a good shop out in the midwest. There called Vs Motorsports out in schaumburg a suburb of Illinois. They have a website Vsmotorsports.com and they worked on my 2003 g35 sedan. I recommend them
