^ Also, routing in that direction will help re-heat really cold transmission fluid in the event you live in a very cold area.

Danny, I know you had mentioned routing yours that way when we were talking about it at Zdayz. I'm assuming you went the other route because of the bypass on this model?

^ At Zday I had talked about installing it that way, but once I saw at what temps the transmission normally runs at(170F) and what it gets up too( ~300F), I decided to install it after the OEM Radiator to maximize cooling. But could there be an overcooling situation? I am in the process of figure this out for everyone.

Once I have the necessary data to solve the equations I will post my findings.

Some things to note

If your transmission doesn't lock up its running too cold.

Our Valve bodies contain a Cooler bypass valve which opens at 100F +/- 20F
So the cooler will not be in the loop until the transmission warms up.

The OEM Trans Radiator is attached to the engine coolant radiator, Coolant temps is ~190. So the Transmission fluid will warm up regardless if too cold.

^Ah, good to know.

So given sufficient cooling, the transmission is pretty well engineered to get itself to the right temperatures.

^ Specifically what I am going to calculate is the Maximum Temperature drop based on 13,000 BTU. Just missing some info.

So if the radiator is cooling at its max 13k BTU how much will it drop 150F fluid?

That is what I will figure out.

All you have to know is the volume of oil and it's thermal capacity. After that, it's simple arthritic

Yep

Edit: Finding the Specific heat of Matic S will need some actual testing, we can use 2 kJ/kg k for light oil and for flow rate, I am just going to calculate how much fluid can pass though the 5/16 inch pipe. I have been busy, but still working on it.

Wouldn't you want to run the return line (yellow) from the rad to the left side of the cooler and then run the right fitting on the cooler back to the tranny fitting? I'm not understanding why you did a cross flow from right to left on the cooler and not a andnot left to right like the oOEM tranny cooler runs?? Or did the cooler you get show you a specific supply and return. The way you have it set up is the external cooler is running routed in series after the OEM cooler correct?

The B&M is a Single Pass cooler with both inlet and outlet facing the same direction you can plumb it anyway you want to with the pictured orientation, It still functions as intended (as long as you mount it facing up). If you want the inlet on the other side of the B&M radiator you may do that. The Way I have it hooked up was decided at the time to be the best arrangement so that the hose doesn't kink. If you find a better way by all means, its just a guide stuff like that you may and can change.

If you mount it sideways the top has to be the outlet.(Pictured in the OP)

Yes,I have it hooked up in series. Outlet of OEM Trans Cooler into the B&M, then back into the transmission.

I did this install this weekend and I can say that the cooler does warm up pretty fricken quickly to the touch at least. I added about 1/2 qrt went through the gears then let ideal. The levels seemed to be within the hatch on the hot side of the dip. I can tell you that driving around with it the transitions of the gears especially sports mode are a lot smoother. Especially 2 to 3 and vise versa. So far no leaks no issues.

Sorry for bumping this old thread, but will this work with a mishimoto universal cooler? such as this?

A little late here, but yes, any "radiator" will work as it's removing heat from the fluid when passing through these heat sinks.

I'm looking to do this installation on my G soon, but I want to completely separate trans oil and engine coolant. Technical review of this radiator shows when the radiator cracks it can mix antifreeze coolant and the trans oil. I can't take that chance. I want to separate the two. I'll be capping the OEM system (like the stillen install) and using this V&M radiator as the sole cooler for my transmission.
